Union Public Service Commission has officially released notification for the permanent post for Thirteen Specialist Grade-III, Assistant Professor (Endocrinology), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The last date to apply online is on or before January 12, 2017. The selection of the Assistant Professor (Endocrinology) will be done based on the interview conducted by UPSC.

Assistant Professor (Endocrinology) duty includes: -

  1. To convey theoretical and practical instructions to undergraduate/post-graduate medical students;
  2. To conduct and guide research work in the speciality;
  3. To render patient care in the speciality;
  4. Any other duties that may be assigned by the authorities from time to time

There are thirteen vacancies for Specialist Grade-III, Assistant Professor (Endocrinology), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. 1 for ST, 2 SC, 4 for OBC and 6 for UR. Assistant Professor (Endocrinology) posts are also suitable for Differently Abled Persons with disability viz. Orthopedically Handicapped/Locomotor Disability/Cerebral Palsy with Both legs affected but not arms (BL) or One Leg affected (Right or Left) (OL) or Muscular weakness and limited physical endurance (MW).

UPSC Recruitment Eligibility

Candidates applying for Specialist Grade-III, Assistant Professor (Endocrinology) under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare must qualify the following criteria set by UPSC 2017 to be eligible for the Post.

Educational Qualification

(i) Candidate must have an MBBS degree qualification from a recognized University included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule or Part-II of the Third Schedule to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956.

(ii) Candidate must also have a Post Graduate degree with the Speciality or Super-speciality in Doctorate of Medicine (Endocrinology), or Doctor of Medicine (Medicine) or Doctor of Medicine (Pediatrics) with two years special training in Endocrinology.

Note: The candidates holding a qualification from DNB need to get their qualification verified by NBE as to whether their DNB qualification is equivalent with MD/MS as per the requirement of the notification.

Candidate should also go through the Official Notification at least once before beginning the application process. 

Work Experience

A candidate must have at least three years’ teaching experience as Sr. Resident or Tutor or Demonstrator or Registrar in the concerned Speciality or Super-Speciality in a recognized teaching institution after obtaining the first post graduate degree.

Note: Candidates having teaching experience as Senior Resident/Tutor/Registrar/Demonstrator in Department of Endocrinology after MD (Medicine)/MD (Pediatrics) will be considered of having special training in Endocrinology. Therefore, such candidates, having MD (Medicine)/MD (Pediatrics) with minimum two years’ experience in the Department of Endocrinology and remaining one year in the Department of Medicine or Pediatrics will also become eligible for the post. Teaching experience in any other post like the post of General Duty Medical Officer or Medical Officer shall not be considered for eligibility purpose for recruitment to this post.

Age Limit

The upper age limit for the applicants is 40 years. The age limit shall be the prescribed closing date for the submission of the online Application.

UPSC Recruitment: Relaxation/Reservation

There is a relaxation of 5 years applicable to SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC candidates.

Age relaxation to Physically Handicapped (PH) persons

Age relaxation of 10 years for UR candidates (15 years for SC/ST candidates and 13 years for OBC candidates) in upper age limit will be allowed to persons suffering from :

(a) blindness or low vision,

(b) hearing impairment

(c) locomotor disability or cerebral palsy,

However, this relaxation in Age is subjected to the condition that maximum age of the applicant on the closing date shall not exceed 56 years.

Out of 13 vacancies of Assistant Professor (Endocrinology), 2 are reserved for Schedule Tribe, 1 for Schedule Caste,4 for OBC and 6 for Upper-class candidates.

How To Apply For UPSC Recruitment?

A candidate who wish to apply for the post of Assistant Professor (Endocrinology) under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare should follow the application procedure mentioned below:

  • Visit the official website
  • Click on the recruitment button and fill in the Online Recruitment Application (ORA).
  • Enter all the details asked in the ORA such as name, parent’s name, date of birth, correspondence address, academic qualifications, email address, mobile number, etc.
  • Provide your correct and functional email address as all correspondence will be made by the UPSC through email only.
  • Candidates must also upload the following documents/certificates as claimed in the ORA, in a single pdf format file.  Candidate should keep a check that file size should not exceed 2MB, and the file is legible when the printout is taken. Candidates are recommended to take the scan of the documents/certificates in 200 dpi grey scale. Documents required to be scanned are:
  1. Class 10th or equivalent certificate indicating the date of birth, or mark sheet of Class 10th or equivalent issued by Central/State Board indicating Date of Birth in support of the claim of age.
  2. Degree/Diploma certificate as proof of educational qualification claimed in the ORA. In the absence of Degree/Diploma certificate, a provisional certificate issued by the university along with mark sheets pertaining to all the academic years.
  3. If any other type of qualifications is claimed by a candidate as per requirement of the notification, order/letter in respect of that claim, indicating the Authority (with number and date) under which it has been so treated, in respect of equivalent clause in Essential Qualifications.
  4. Certificate(s) in the proforma (prescribed by UPSC) from the Head(s) of Organization(s)/Department(s) for the entire work experience claimed in the ORA, clearly mentioning the duration of employment (date, month & year) indicating the basic pay and consolidated pay. The certificate(s) should also mention the nature of duties performed/experience obtained in the post(s) with duration(s). Experience Certificate should be issued in the prescribed format relevant to the post.
  5. Caste certificate by candidate seeking reservation as SC/ST/OBC, in the proforma (prescribed by UPSC) from the competent authority indicating clearly the candidate’s Caste, proforma should also mention the Act/Order under which the Caste is recognized as SC/ST/OBC and the village/town the candidate is ordinarily a resident of.
  6. A declaration by the candidate seeking reservation as OBC, that he/she does not belong to the creamy layer, in addition to the community certificate (OBC) in the UPSC prescribed format.
  7. Physically Handicapped certificate in the proforma (prescribed by UPSC) issued by the Competent Authority. The Competent Authority to issue Physically Handicapped certificate shall be a Medical Board duly constituted by the Central or a State Government.
  8. Documentary support for any other claim(s) made.
  • After completion of the ORA and uploading of the documents, applicant have to pay Application Fee either through net banking of the SBI or by using master/visa debit/credit card or through by remitting the money in any branch of the SBI. Applications fee is Rs. 2 for General and OBC male candidates, No fee for SC/ST/PH/Women candidates.
  • Submit the ORA
  • Candidate should take a printout of the submitted ORA for future references, they are not required to send the application by post/hand to UPSC.

UPSC Recruitment Selection Process

Candidates who have applied for Specialist Grade-III, Assistant Professor (Endocrinology), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare will undergo an Interview conducted by the UPSC. Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the information provided by them in the ORA. Candidate should ensure that the information filled by them is true, if found otherwise in later stages his/her candidature will be rejected and he/she will be permanently DEBARRED from the UPSC.
