The official cut-off for UPSC 2018 for general category was 98 in prelims, 774 out of 1750 in Mains, and 982 out of 2025 which is inclusive of the interview round. This was also a significant year as for the first time the general cut-off had gone below 100 in past four years. This is also an indication that the paper was definitely way tougher. This is approximately 49% of the marks that was needed to qualify the exam. Before 2018, the cut off marks for general category was 105.3 in 2017, 116 in 2016 and 107.34 in 2015.
UPSC exam is undoubtedly one of the toughest exam in the country as there are very limited vacancies but applicants every year is generally above 100,000. Even when the cut-off seem low enough, it is actually difficult to achieve owing to the strict evaluation policies of the conducting body.
