Combined Medical Service Exam conducted by UPSC is a nation-wide central government entrance test for medical students to join the public sector medical service. The exam notification was scheduled for release on July 22, 2020, but now has been postponed to July 29, 2020. The CMS exam is a public sector entrance test that is conducted yearly all over the country to recruit medical graduates for the following posts:

  • Assistant Divisional Medical Officer- Railways
  • Assistant Medical Officer- Indian Ordnance factory (Health Services)
  • Junior Scale Posts-Central Health Service
  • General Duty Medical officer- New Delhi Municipal Council
  • General Duty Medical Grade-II (East Delhi, North Delhi, South Delhi Municipal Corporation)

UPSC CMS 2020 Latest Updates and Important Dates

The medical entrance is a much-coveted gateway for medical graduates who wish to join the services of the Central Government. Earlier the notification release date for the exam was July 22, 2020, and the last date to apply was August 11, 2020. The UPSC CMS 2020 Prelims exam is scheduled for October 22, 2020.

Every year, in April the exam notification is released by UPSC for Combined Medical Service. But due to the COVId-19 pandemic and consequent lockdown, it had been postponed indefinitely for 2020.

UPSC CMS 2020 Eligibility, Exam Pattern and Important Highlights

If you are a medical graduate or a final year student aspiring to become a part of the government sector health institutes, you have to be aware of the eligibility criteria and exam pattern to take the preparations accordingly. UPSC exams are highly competitive and the vacancies are limited and hence extensive preparation is required.

Since the official notification of UPSC CMS 2020 has not been released yet, we are going to share a few key highlights as per the 2019 official notice.

UPSC CMS 2020 Important Highlights

  • A span of 20days is available for the students to complete the application procedure since the notice is released.
  • A time span will also be given to candidates when they can withdraw the application.
  • Only those who clear the stage 1 of the exam, will be called for the personality test round.
  • There is a negative marking of 1/3rd of the allotted marks to each question for every wrong answer.
  • There is no minimum mark required in MBBS to be eligible for the exam.

UPSC CMS 2020 Eligibility Criteria

  • The minimum required qualification to be eligible for the exam is MBBS from any recognized university or college.;
  • Students of Final year awaiting their results are also eligible for applying for the exam. However, their graduation certificate should be released before the UPSC CMS Preliminary exam date.

UPSC CMS 2020 Age Limit

  • The candidate applying for the exam should not exceed the age limit of 32 years. The minimum age limit for the exam is not applicable. There is age relaxation for reserved category candidates.

UPSC CMS 2020 Exam Pattern

The national level competitive exam conducted by UPSC for recruiting medical graduates has two stages- parts 1 and 2.

  • Part 1 exam has two written papers which are of 250 marks each.;
  • Part 2 is the personality test round and the marks allotted is 100 marks.

As the notification release date for CMS has been postponed by UPSC, many government job aspirants with a medical degree wait in anticipation. It is likely the last date of form submission will also be postponed accordingly. For relevant notification, the aspirants are advised to keep a regular tab of the official UPSC website.
