February 18, 2021: Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the release/issue of official UPSC notification regarding the UPSC Civil Services exam details and dates. The delay is due to the ongoing case at the Supreme Court.
The case is for the age-barred candidates who are seeking an extra attempt. However, the case started with providing ‘extra chance’ to the UPSC candidates whose last attempt for the civil services exam was on October 4 Prelims exam. The case was solved and the decision was taken in the favor of the candidates.

With this, the age criteria came into the picture and the age-barred candidates were exempted from taking the exam. The case regarding the same is currently in the apex court. The Supreme Court has informed the authorities that UPSC civil services notification is to be released only after the final decision of the SC is taken. As per the latest one-line notification, the dates of examination for the Prelims exam are unchanged.
The UPSC IAS exam is conducted in three stages - Prelims, Mains, and interview phase. The selection ratio for the candidates is very low as the previous year’s trend shows that out of the total 8 lakh applicants, only 12000 aspirants got selected for the service.
