The final list of the recommended candidates for the post of Assistant Geologists has been declared by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) and the candidates who appeared for the selection procedure may check the result on the official website of UPSC.
Apart from conducting the selection process for the post of Assistant Geologist, Union Public Service Commission is the constitutionally authorized body to conduct Civil Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, National Defense Academy Examination, Indian Forest Services examination among other exams conducted for the appointment to the services of the Union. Apart from being responsible for recruitment of candidates, UPSC also frames and amends recruitment rules for various services and posts under the Government and resolves disciplinary issues related to different Civil Services.

Earlier UPSC had endorsed vacancy of 139 candidates for the post by releasing advertisement no. 15/2015, Item no. 06, vacancy no. 15101506624, on October 24, 2015. In order to fill the vacant position, a two round selection process was conducted by the Commission. The first round, conducted on May 22, 2016, was a computer based recruitment test which served as the screening process for the second round. Based on the first round test performance candidates were called for the second round which consisted of personal interview. The interviews of the selected candidates were held from November 21, 2016 to December 5, 2016.
According to the result declared by UPSC, a total of 136 candidates have been recommended for the appointment as Assistant Geologists. Out of vacant 139 posts, 3 posts remain unoccupied even after declaration of result. The reason for this is unavailability of the candidates for 3 posts which are reserved for physically handicapped (PH) / physically disabled (PD) candidates. The appointment of selected candidates as Assistant Geologists is to be made in Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines.

The names of recommended candidates are given according to serial number, roll number, and name. Certain selected candidates have been recommended training for three months, six months or one year. Such candidates shall find certain mark indicating the same in front of their names. It should also be noted that the result details i.e. cut off marks will be uploaded on the official website of the Commission within next 30 days.
