SSC CGL 2020 is conducted in 4 levels i.e Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and Tier 4. The SSC CGL Tier-II 2019 exam will be conducted on November 15-18, 2020 and junior engineer paper-2 2019 will be conducted on March 21, 2021, and SSC CGL Tier-II 2019-20 will be conducted on November 2-5, 2020. SSC CGL Tier 2 is an objective type paper consisting of multiple-choice questions. Tier 2 is also conducted Tier 2 examination comprises 4 papers namely Quantitative Aptitude, English Language and Comprehension, Statistics and General Studies. Check SSC CGL Tier-II 2020 Syllabus

  • Paper 1 & 2 are compulsory for all the posts
  • Paper 3 is required only for the post of “Statistical Investigator Gr. II” & “Compiler”
  • Paper 4 is required only for the post of “Assistant Audit Officer”.
  • The maximum marks allotted for each paper is 200 and the duration of each paper is 2 hours (additional 40 minutes for VH and Cerebral Palsy candidates.
  • For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted in paper 2 and 0.5 marks will be deducted in paper 1, 3 & 4.
  • No marks are awarded or deducted for unanswered

Solve Previous Years Question Papers during Preparation time

Paper 1 is based on the class 10 syllabus and Paper 2 is based on 10 + 2 curriculum. On the other hand, Paper 3 & 4 is conducted to test the candidates’ understanding of graduate level knowledge.

Tier 2 is the second phase of CGLE exam conducted by SSC and students shortlisted in tier 2 will qualify for the subsequent round. Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC CGL to recruit candidates for various Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ posts in different ministries of Government of India.

Few significant changes were introduced in SSC CGL exam pattern last year. The first two tiers of SSC CGL are shifted from pen and paper based test to online exam to bring more transparency in the recruitment process.

SSC CGL Tier 2 Marking Scheme

The total marks scored by a candidate in SSC CGL Tier 2 would be calculated on the basis of questions attempted and marks per question minus questions answered incorrectly. The following marking scheme is applicable for Tier 2.

  • All the objective questions in 4 papers carry 2 marks each.
  • There is no scoring for questions not attempted.
  • More than one answer for a question would be treated as incorrect response and marks will be deducted for an incorrect response.
  • For SSC CGL tier 2, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks in paper 2 and 0.5 marks in paper 1, 3 and 4

Important Topics to Prepare for SSC CGL Tier 2

Although a number of topics in SSC CGL tier I and tier II are same, the difficulty level of questions is much higher in tier II. Candidates must know the important topics from each paper that will maximum weightage in the exam.

Quantitative Aptitude (Paper I)

The majority of questions in Paper I are asked from Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Date Interpretation and Percentage. These topics will carry almost 60% weightage of the entire paper I. Candidates need to solve a lot of sample papers to strengthen the concepts and improve their accuracy.

English Language and Comprehension (Paper-II)

In the second paper, questions based on common grammatical errors will carry the maximum weightage. Go through some popular grammar books like High School Grammar by Wren and Martin to improve the knowledge of some fundamental topics such as subject-verb agreement, conjunctions, prepositions, tenses, etc.

Reading newspapers might not prove very helpful to score well in this section. Check the pattern and previous year questions carefully to know the topics expected in the exam.

Statistics (Paper III)

Some of the prominent topics in Statistics that will carry maximum weightage in SSC CGL Tier-II includes Skewness and Kurtosis, Correlation and Regression, Probability Theory, Time Series Analysis, Sampling Theory, Statistical Inference, etc.

General Studies (Finance and Economics) (Paper IV)

Paper IV can be broadly divided into 2 parts – Finance and Accounts & Economics. Part A contains questions from Financial Accounting and basic concepts of Accounting while questions in Part B are usually asked from Micro Economics, Theory of Demand and Supply, Theory of Production and Cost, Money and Banking, Indian Economy, Economic Reforms in India, etc.
