The age limit for the post of CGL Income Tax Inspector Job is 30 years with age relaxation benefit to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, etc. Qualifications wise one has to hold a bachelor's degree from a recognized University.

Selection Process

SSC CGL Test is undertaken for the appointment of an Income Tax Inspector and several other positions. The exam is divided into three parts i.e.

  •  Tier 1 (Prelims)
  •  Tier 2 (Mains)
  •  Tier 3 (Descriptive Test)

All these Levels must be eligible by an applicant and the cutoff clear for each. This relies but on the number of applicants eligible as well as the number of openings required. The final  SSC CGL Result  will be declared in the month of August 2020 (tentatively).

One of the primary job positions offered for SSC is of a  CGL Income Tax Inspector. In the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), it is a Group-C position. CBDT operates throughout the nation to raise direct taxes. Direct taxes could be defined as income tax, corporate tax, wealth tax and so forth. The department is divided into two sections i.e Assessment and Non-Assessment:

Assessment section 

A job in this section includes work related to desk job details that come with the title of Income Tax Inspector.

  • You will be responsible for assessing income tax that people, company or partnership firms are liable to pay.
  • You will also have to handle refund claims and TDS (Tax Deduction at Source) queries.

Non-Assessment section 

A job in this section will subject you to fieldwork.

  • Inspectors employed in this section can be a part of the rapid response team that conducts raids.
  • The ITIs who are given non-assessment duties usually have to perform only clerical duties.
  • Their job is limited to filing official paperwork and occasionally accompanying raid teams.

Working hours are mainly the standard as of any Indian Government Job which is 9 am to 6 pm but in Non-Assessment one may work for the longer duration under the rough environment such as raids, searches, arrests, etc.

Transfer: There are two types of transfer available in the dept.

  • Annual General Transfer
  • Inter Charge Transfer

The transfer is possible but it’s not too certain or an easy thing to happen. There are multiple factors taken into consideration which must be in your favor

  • Either you must have valid grounds for applying for ICT cited in CBDT circular or else 3 years of service.

Training of a CGL Income Tax Inspector

Training is conducted for all the selected candidates. The preparation is for a period of 12 weeks and is performed at the National Preparation Center for Direct Taxes (DTRTI) in the area to which they were assigned. It lasts for around 12 weeks where one learns various tax codes, regulatory processes, and forces of inquiry.
