SSC CGL (Combined Graduate Level) Examination is conducted by SSC for filling up various posts in several Ministries / Departments / Organisations. Interested candidates must check if they meet the specified requirements before applying by referring to the SSC CGL Eligibility.

SSC CGL eligibility criteria of candidates includes nationality, age educational qualification and physical standards. A candidate must meet of the SSC CGL eligibility criteria to be able to apply for the SSC CGL exam.

Nationality Criteria for SSC CGL 2020

To be eligible for SSC CGL, a candidate must be either one of the following

  • a citizen of India
  • a subject of Nepal
  • a subject of Bhutan
  • a Tibetan refugee who came to India, before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of settling here permanently
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from the countries specified below, with the intention of permanently settling in India:

Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam

SSC CGL 2020: Age Limit Criteria

A candidate needs to meet the various age requirements according to the different posts applied for. It is therefore strongly advised to go through the relevant age specifics to ensure that the candidate satisfies them. The details of the age limit for SSC CGL for varied posts are given below

SSC CGL 2020: Educational Qualification Criteria

To be eligible for SSC CGL, the candidates must fulfil the academic qualifications depending on the various posts that they have applied to. The details of these criteria are described below

  • For Assistant Audit Officer

Mandatory: A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institute

Desirable: Chartered Accountant or Cost & Management Accountant or Company Secretary or Masters in Commerce or Masters in Business Studies or Masters in Business Administration (Finance) or Masters in Business Economics

  • For Statistical Investigator Grade – II

A Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% in Mathematics at 12th standard level, OR

A Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at degree level.

  • For Compiler

A Bachelor’s Degree from any recognized University with Economics or Statistics or Mathematics as compulsory or Elective subject

  • For all other posts

A Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or equivalent

SSC CGL 2020: Physical Standards

In addition to the educational, age and nationality requirements, a candidate must also meet the physical standards that have been set by the authorities to fulfil the SSC CGL 2020 Eligibility norms. These are provided below

Chest - 81 cm. (fully expanded with a minimum expanse of 5 cm.)
In the case of Garhwali, Assamese, Gurkhas and members of Scheduled Tribes; Height can be relaxed by 5 cm
Female candidates Height - 152 cm.
Weight - 48 Kgs.
In the case of Gurkhas, Garhwali, Assamese and Members of Scheduled Tribes; Height can be relaxed by 2.5 cm and weight by 2 kg.
Sub Inspector in Central Bureau of Investigation Male Candidates Height - 165 cm
Chest – 76 cm. with expansion
Distant vision - 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye.
Near vision - 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in other eyes.
Female Candidates Height - 150 cm
Chest– Not applicable
Distant vision - 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye.
Near vision - 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in other eyes.
Sub Inspector in National Investigation Agency Male Candidates Height - 170 cm.
Chest – 76 cm. with expansion
Height can be relaxed for Hills men and Tribal: 5 cm
Distant vision - 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye.
Near vision - 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in another eye.
Female Candidates Height - 150 cm.
Chest – Not applicable
Height can be relaxed for Hills women and Tribal: 5 cm
Distant vision - 6/6 in one and 6/9 in the other eye.
Near vision - 0.6 in one eye and 0.8 in other eye.

SSC CGL Reservation Scheme

There is an option of the reservation to be availed for candidates belonging to certain categories. Those wishing to make use of this beneficial feature must acquaint themselves with all relevant details regarding the SSC CGL 2020 Reservation Criteria. The same is discussed below:

  • A firm number of vacancies in each category of posts will be determined at least one month before the declaration of the final results of SSC CGL.
  • Reservation for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Ex-Serviceman (EXS) and Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates for all categories of posts/services, would be as determined by the Indenting Ministries / Departments / Offices / Cadres.
  • It must be noted that the vacancies for Ex-Servicemen category are reserved only for Group “C” posts and not for Group “B” Posts.
  • Reserved category candidates are exempted from paying application fees.
  • Candidates with a disability of 40% and more will only be considered as handicapped for reservation.
