West Bengal Education Minister's Appeal for NET exam date Postponement to NTA has been Accepted

The Education Minister of West Bengal, Partha Mukherjee, has urged the NTA or National Testing Agency to change the dates for UGC NET 2020 as several dates are coinciding the Durga Puja. Mr. Chatterjee tweeted about the same soon after NTA released a subject-wise and shift-wise schedule of the exam. According to Chatterjee, the decision to conduct the exam during the festivities by the Agency as well as the Center is an ignorant approach towards the sentiments of thousands of candidates from this state. He has also mentioned that Durga Puja is the biggest Festival in Bengal and also a national festival. The dates of the festival is from October 19-24, 2020 and the main days of the festivity is October 22-24, 2020, respectively. Also read- UGC NTA NET admit card released

Latest Update- NTA has agreed to postpone the exams which clash with Durga Puja and new dates for these exams will be released soon. The exams to be postponed are Geography scheduled on October 21 (Panchami), Bengali on October 22 which is Shasti and Hindi on October 23 which is Saptami.

On the other hand, the exam will be conducted in two shifts over the course of several days. The dates of the exam are as follows:

October 21-23

November 5

The NTA has already released the admit card for the exams to be conducted on September 24 and 15, 2020. For the admit cards for other days, candidates are advised to frequently check the official website for updates.

The NTA NET is conducted twice every year for selecting eligible candidates for research fellowship and lecturer positions in government colleges. In 2020, the June-session of the Net exam has got postponed several times after which the date had been finalized from September 24, 2020 onwards, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
