January 06, 2021: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will be releasing the UGC Net 2021 notification along with the UGC NET Application form 2021 soon. The UGC NET 2021 exam is expected to be conducted in June, this year. 

Candidates wishing to appear for the UGC NET 2021 exam are required to fulfill the eligibility criteria before submitting their application forms for the same. Applicants may be disqualified if they do not fulfill the eligibility criteria, even at a later stage.

UGC NET Eligibility 2021 – Educational Qualification

It is fundamental for candidates to possess the following educational qualifications to be eligible for the UGC NET 2021 examinations:

  • General Category Candidates: A minimum of 55 percent aggregate marks in their Master’s degree in relevant subjects such as Humanities, Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, etc. from a UGC recognized university. 
  • Reserved Category Candidates: A minimum of 50 percent aggregate marks in their Master’s degree in relevant subjects such as Humanities, Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, etc. from a UGC recognized university. 
  • Candidates awaiting final year results of their Master’s degree are also eligible. “Such candidates must complete their PG degree examination within two years from the date of NET result with required percentage of marks, failing which they shall be treated as disqualified,” as stated in the official website.
  • Ph.D. holders completed, with or without results, before September 19, 1991, are also eligible.

UGC NET 2021: Age Limit

Applicants for UGC NET 2021 exam need to abide by the following age restrictions:

  • Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) applicants have an age bar of 30 years.
  • Assistant Professor applicants have no age bar.

UGC NET 2021: Exemptions

Candidates, applying for the post of Assistant Professor, are exempted from meeting the eligibility criteria for UGC NET 2021 exam:

  • Ph.D. holders according to GC Regulations, 2009
  • Cleared UGC/CSIR JRF exam before 1989
  • Cleared State(s) Eligibility Test (SET) before June 1, 2002. These candidates and those who have cleared SET after the mentioned date can directly apply for the post of Assistant Professor in colleges in India.

Important Points:

  • Candidates should appear for UGC NET 2021 exam in the subject of their post graduation.
  • Post-graduate diploma/certificate holders from any Indian or Foreign university needs to verify their equivalence with recognized Indian universities through the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
