CBSE UGC NET 2018 (July) Dates Announced, Exam Pattern and Eligibility Revised

CBSE has announced the dates for CBSE UGC NET 2018 July session with some major changes. The National Eligibility Test (NET) is conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on behalf of University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine candidates’ eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship or Assistant Professors in Indian universities and colleges. The test is tentatively scheduled for July 8, 2018.

A detailed notification for CBSE UGC NET 2018 is expected to be released in the first week of February -2018 for candidates applying for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) as well as Assistant Lectureship this year.

New in CBSE UGC NET 2018

This year two major changes in the existing scheme of UGC NET was introduced by CBSE.

  1. Two Papers instead of Three

A major change this year will be removal of Paper III from CBSE UGC NET Exam Pattern, i.e, candidates will only appear for Paper I and II.

Paper I will be of 100 marks consisting of 50 questions of 2 marks each. The paper will consist of General Aptitude and will test a candidate’s teaching and researcher abilities. The paper is to be attempted within 60 minutes, i.e. from 9:30 a.m-10:30 a.m.

Paper 2, on the other hand, will be to test a candidate on how thorough their knowledge of the subject they have chosen is.The question paper will consist of 100 multiple choice questions each of one marks. All the questions will be compulsory without any choices and the entire paper will have a weightage of 100 marks. The duration of the test will of 120 minutes from 11 a.m-1 p.m.

The entire duration of the paper will now be 180 minutes instead of 300 minutes. 

  1. Change in Age Limit For JRF

The upper age for the Junior Research Fellowship which earlier was 28 years has been increased by two years for the candidates who belong to the General Category. The present upper age limit is 30 years for the candidates of General Category and the same for the candidates of reserved category is 35 years.

How to Apply for CBSE UGC NET 2018?

The notification with the all the details regarding the test will be made live on the official website of CBSE UGC NET on February 1, 2018 on

The online application window will open from March 6, 2018 for candidates. The application process for CBSE UGC NET 2018 will last till April 5, 2018. The last date to complete the application by paying the application fee will be April 6, 2018.

The application fee for candidates of General category is INR 1000 and is non-refundable while the same for the candidates of OBC is INR 500 and for candidates belonging to the SC/ST category is INR 250.

Documents Required for Applying for CBSE UGC NET 2018

To successfully complete the application process, a candidate must be ready with these documents.

  • Aadhar Number. As per CBSE, it is compulsory for all the applicants to possess a Aadhar number to be eligible to apply for the test.
  • Scanned image of the candidate’s recent passport sized photograph of dimension 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm of size 4kb-40kb.
  • Scanned image of the candidate’s signature of dimension 3.5cm x 1.5 cm of size 1kb-30kb.

Steps to apply for CBSE UGC NET 2018

  • Fill in all the details asked in the application form such as Subject of choice, choice of exam city, name, contact details, etc.
  • Review all the details and submit.
  • Upload scanned images of recent passport sized photograph and signature.
  • Make payment of application fee using either Debit/ Credit card or e-Challan. The payment can also be made offline using e-challan and submitting the same at designated branches of bank.
  • Confirm payment and complete the online application and payment process.
