SSC JE 2017 exam is conducting in 2 shifts from March 1 to March 4, 2017. The exam was conducted in online mode at various exam centers. The difficulty level of the exam is marked moderate. SSC JE Exam comprises 2 Papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. The exam carried 200 questions in total. Paper 1 consisted 3 sections: General Intelligence, General Awareness and General Engineering.

Candidates qualifying SSCJE Paper 1 will be called for Paper 2. Each question in Paper 1 carried 1 mark. There is also a provision of negative marking in SSC JE. For every wrong marked answer, ¼ marks is deducted as penalty.

Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC JE exam every year for the recruitment of Junior Engineers in various government departments. Candidates can find important dates related to SSC JE 2017 in the following table:

SSC JE Answer Key & Question Paper

SSC JE official answer key will be issued by the Commission on the official website: Candidates can also challenge the answer key if they find any discrepancy in it. The challenges against the SSC JE answer key will be referred to the committees constituted by the commission for this purpose. Candidates can use the answer keys for the following reasons:

  • To know the correct answer for the questions asked in the examination
  • It requires to know the solved steps and answers for the questions
  • To evaluate the candidate’s answers with the actual answer

SSC JE Section Wise Analysis

SSC JE comprised 3 main sections: General Intelligence, General Awareness and General Engineering. General Engineering Section is further divided into 3 more sections: Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Candidates had to attempt only one section for which they have applied.

This technical section comprised 100 questions and the rest questions were asked from General Intelligence and General Awareness section.

SSC JE: General Intelligence/ Reasoning

General Intelligence section of SSC JE was of easy to moderate level. This section covered most of the questions form following topics: Syllogism, Analogy, Blood Relation, Direction Test, Water Image, Paper Folding and Logical Statement etc.

Candidates could easily score 40-45 marks in General Intelligence, if they are attempted properly. The questions were quite easy to attempt and less time consuming.

General Awareness

SSC JE General Awareness comprised questions based on History, Geography, Polity, Economics, Biology, Computer Awareness and Current Affairs etc. The level of questions was marked of moderate level. Many candidates found MCQs from Current Affairs and Polity as difficult. It is expected that, scores above 35 is a good attempt.

SSC JE: General Engineering

SSC JE General Engineering Section differs for the candidates appearing for ME, EE and CE. This is the main section of SSC JE exam. The exam had questions based on fundamentals of General Engineering (Civil/Mechanical/Electrical). So, if you’re well versed with the basics and the applications then you could have attempted a good number of questions.

Mechanical Engineering

Fluid Mechanics & Machinery and Thermal Engineering dominated this section. However, questions based on these topics were remarkably hard. 38% questions were asked from Production, SOM and Fluid Mechanics and they were easy to attempt. Candidates attempted were quite easy to attempt. Good attempts in this section is 50 MCQs.

Civil Engineering

The 6th shift of SSC JE 2017 exam was comparatively easy. Questions in Civil Engineering covered almost the whole syllabus. MCQs based on Hydraulics and Building Materials were time consuming. While MCQs asked on Surveying and Soil Mechanics were easy to attempt. Any score more than 60 marks will be considered as good score in SSC JE Civil Engineering.

Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering section of SSC JE Exam held on March 3, 2017 (evening shift) was marked easy as compared to previous other shifts. The MCQs were asked from Electrical Machines, Transmission, Magnetic Circuits, AC Fundamentals, Circular Law and Network Theorems etc.

Candidates found that most of the questions were based on fundamentals of Electrical Engineering. An attempt of 60 questions can make you clear the sectional cutoff marks.
