SSC JE exam is taking place until March 4, 2017 in two shifts. The second day of the exam was held on March 2, 2017. The difficulty level of the paper was moderate. The paper was divided into three sections i.e. General Awareness, General Intelligence/ reasoning and Technical section. It consisted of 200 multiple choice questions. Each question carried one mark and 0.25 mark would be deducted for the wrong answer. Candidates had to solve the paper in two hours. Candidates qualified in SSC JE paper I will appear for paper II. Staff Selection Commission conducts SSC JE examination every year for the post of Junior Engineer in various disciplines. The candidates are recruited for the Jr. Engineer, Group B Non-gazette posts in various government departments.

The official answer key will be issued by SSC exam board for candidate’s reference. Candidates can challenge the answer key if they found any discrepancy. The challenges against the answer key will be referred to the committees constituted by the commission for this purpose. The answer key is needed to know the correct answer for the questions asked in the examination, It requires to know the solved steps and answers for the questions and to evaluate the candidate’s answers with the actual answer.

There were three sections in Civil/ Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering. Candidates had to attempt only one section as they applied for. Technical section consisted of 100 questions and rest of the questions were asked from General Intelligence and Awareness Section. The level of this section was easy to moderate. Most of the questions were asked from the topics such as syllogism, analogy, blood relation, direction test, water image, paper folding, logical statement etc. Candidates could easily score more than 40 marks in this section if they attempted properly. The questions were quite easy to attempt and less time consuming.

The questions were based on history, geography, polity, economics, biology, computer awareness, current affairs etc. This section was of moderate level. Candidates found the questions from Current Affairs and Biology were difficult. Any score above 40 marks will be a good one.

Fluid Mechanics & Machinery and Thermal Engineering carried most of weightage in this section. The questions from these topics were hard to attempt. The questions based on production, strength of material & mechanics and fluid mechanics topics were quite easy to attempt.

All the questions asked in the question paper were covered from the topics as specified in Civil Engineering Syllabus. The questions asked from surveying and soil mechanics were easy to attempt. Questions based on Hydraulics and Building Materials were time-consuming. Any score more than 60 marks will be considered as a good score in Civil Engineering.
The questions were based on electrical machines, transmission, magnetic circuits, AC fundamentals, circular law, network theorems etc. Candidates found that most of the questions were from Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering. An attempt of more than 65 questions can make you clear the sectional cutoff marks.
