SSC conducts SSC JE for recruitment of Junior Engineer posts every year. There will be 2 papers- Paper-1 is a computer based test and Paper-2 is subjective in nature. The syllabus varies as per the candidate’s stream. Listed below are some quick facts relating to SSC JE Exam Pattern:

  • SSC conducts the exam for Junior Engineer in 2 Stages namely Paper 1 and Paper 2
  • Paper 1 is an objective type exam. It is conducted in online mode. The total marks for this paper is 200 marks.
  • Paper 2 is a conventional type of exam. It is conducted in offline mode i.e. it is a written exam. Total marks assigned to this paper are 300 marks.
  • The syllabus for civil students is different from mechanical.
  • The exam syllabus comprises of General Awareness and General Engineering (civil and structural) for civil applicants whereas General Engineering (Electrical and Mechanical) for mechanical applicants.

Paper 1 for SSC JE 2018 will be tentatively conducted in December 2018 and paper 2, in January 2019. The result declaration is expected to be out in March/ April 2019.

Exam Pattern for SSC JE Paper I

Paper I consist of three parts. Part A of the question paper includes General Intelligence & Reasoning for 50 marks, Part B is the General Awareness for 50 marks, and Part C is General Engineering for 100 marks.

General Engineering is further classified into 3 parts- Part-A (Civil & Structural), Part-B (Electrical) and Part-C (Mechanical). Every candidate needs to attempt only one of the mentioned part which is appropriate for them as per the applied Junior Engineer post.

SSC JE Exam Pattern (Paper 1)

Listed below are the highlights of SSC JE Exam Pattern for Paper I:

  • Paper I is conducted in online mode i.e. it is a computer based test.
  • The questions are of objective type
  • There is a total of 3 sections in this paper namely General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness and General Engineering Section as per the stream opted.
  • Exam duration is 2 hours (120 minutes)
  • Maximum marks for Paper I is 200 
  • There is a provision of negative marking as well. For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks are deducted. This penalty is valid is only valid for Paper I.
  • Candidates who are shortlisted on the basis of performance in Paper I are called for Paper II.

Exam Pattern for SSC JE Paper II

Paper II will be a conventional type examination, which will be further divided into three parts where students are required to attempt just one part for which they have applied. The three parts are as follows:

  • Part A – General Engineering (Civil & Structural)
  •  Part B – General Engineering (Electrical)
  • Part C – General Engineering (Mechanical)

Listed below are the highlights of SSC JE Exam Pattern for Paper II:

  • It is conducted in offline mode i.e. it is a written examination
  • Maximum marks for Paper II is 300 marks
  • Duration of exam is 2 hours (120 minutes)

SSC JE 2018 Marking Scheme

SSC JE marking scheme is decided and implemented by the exam conducting authority. Students can refer to the below bullets for a fair idea of marking scheme:

  • For every correct answer, positive marks will be rewarded.
  • For every incorrect answer, there will be negative marking. 1/4th marks of the questions will be deducted as penalty
  • For bank answer, no marks will be given.
