The Staff Selection Commission conducts the CHSL 2020 Exam (Combined Higher Secondary Level) in 3 tiers- Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3. Candidates who qualify Tier1 are eligible to appear for Tier 2 of SSC CHSL. Tier 2 is a Descriptive Test and is held to check the writing skills of the candidates. SSC CHSL 2020 Exam Pattern Highlights

SSC CHSL Tier 1 will be conducted in computer mode. The number of questions in tier 1 has been reduced from 50 questions to 25 questions. SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2020: Tier 1 (Objective Test)

SSC CHSL 2021 is a computer mode test. The total marks for the SSC CHSL tier 1 exam are 200 marks. The total number of questions are 100 in tier 1 exam. Negative marking of 0.50 marks will be applicable in the exam. 

The time duration for the tier 1 exam is 60 Minutes for all the students. The question paper will be set in both English and Hindi for every section except English Language section. SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2020: Tier 2 (Descriptive Paper)

SSC CHSL Tier-II Paper is a Descriptive Paper of 100 Marks. The duration of the paper would be for 60 minutes (1 hour). 20 minutes compensatory time is provided to the candidates suffering from VH and cerebral palsy. SSC CHSL tier II comprises of an Essay Writing (200-250 words) and Application Writing (150-200 words).

The minimum qualifying marks in Tier-II would be 33%. The performance in Tier-II would be included for preparing SSC CHSL merit list. SSC CHSL tier 2 has to be written either in Hindi or in the English Language. Partly written in Hindi and Part in English will not be evaluated.

SSC CHSL Exam Pattern 2020: Tier 3

SSC CHSL Tier 3 would continue to be the Skill Test and Typing Test. Typing Test would be conducted only for candidates applying for Data Entry Operator (DEO). Skill Test is conducted for the candidates appearing for recruitment in LDC, Court Clerk and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant. Candidates have to indicate their choice of language medium at the time of SSC CHSL Registration. The skill test is held at the Commission's Regional Offices or other centers as may be decided by the Commission.

SSC CHSL Skill Test: Data Entry Speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on the computer. The ‘Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on Computer’ will be checked on the basis of the correct entry of words/key depressions as per the given passage. The duration of Skill Test is 15 minutes. The printed passage would be containing about 2000-2200 key depressions/ strokes.

Candidates who have disability more than 40% in writing hand, will be allowed 20 minutes compensatory time for the skill test. Skill Test is a qualifying test for the candidates appearing for Data Entry. Candidates will have to qualify the test at the prescribed speed on Computer, provided by the Commission at the Centre/venue so notified.

SSC CHSL Typing Test: It is conducted in English or Hindi language. The medium of the test has to be indicated in SSC CHSL Online Application Form during the Registration Process. It is a qualifying test and will be administered on a computer. Those candidates who have opted for English medium should have a typing speed of 35 words per minute and those candidates who have mentioned Hindi medium should have 30 words per minute.

The speed is adjudged on the accuracy of the typing of a given text passage in 10 minutes on the computer. VH candidates (more than 40% disability) are given compensatory time of 20 minutes (total time: 30 minutes).
