The Tier 1 Exam of SSC CHSL is ongoing. Started from Jan 07, 2017, the exams will be conducted till Feb 05, 2017. The Exam was conducted on Jan 20, 2017 in three slots for a duration of 75 minutes each.

The SSC CHSL Tier 1 Jan 20 exam was of moderate level. However, compared to the exams already conducted, the Jan 20 exam was difficult. The Questions asked in the logical Reasoning were complex and the quantitative aptitude section demanded clear concepts.

While the paper was tough than the previous exams, an average score of 72-87 should be safe enough to clear the SSC CHSL 2017 Cut-off.

The SSC CHSL exam comprises General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness for a total of 200 marks. Each section consists of 25 questions holding 50 marks. There is no negative marking in the question paper.

General Ability and Reasoning

The questions asked in General ability and Reasoning was based on the previous pattern of SSC CHSL Exam. There were 25 questions in the section from which 20-23 question can be consider as safe attempts.

Maximum numbers of questions came from Analogy and classification of odd one out and were moderate in level. Students could fetch marks easily in the topics like alphabet, coding-decoding, and matrix. These topics were easy and many questions came from them. There were 3-5 miscellaneous question of moderate level.

General Awareness

The section of General Awareness tests the general knowledge and current affairs of the students. There were 25 questions for 50 marks in the section were neither easy nor difficult. Each correct response carried 2 marks. The safe attempts of question could be assumed 14 out of the total 25 questions. The topics which majorly asked were history, general science, arts and culture, and current affair.

The level of difficulty of the section was moderate for history and current affairs whereas questions from general science, arts and culture was easy. The topics like politics and computers were given considerable importance.

English Comprehension

This section tests the Basic English knowledge of candidate. This section comprised of 25 question for a total of 50 marks which were moderate in difficulty. An average attempt of 17-23 should be safe to make it to the next level. The topics which covered major part of the papers were synonym, antonym, phrases, idioms, error spotting, and cloze test. The least number of questions came from active-passive voice, direct-indirect speech and phrase replacement which were easy to attempt. The maximum number of questions came from cloze test and its difficulty level was easy.

General Aptitude

The section of General Aptitude checks the mathematical understanding of the candidate. This section consisted of 25 question were moderate in level. This section was comparatively difficult than the section of English, general awareness and knowledge. The overall section was moderate but the safe attempts were 17-19 questions out of 25. The maximum number of questions came from trigonometry, tables, and geometry. There were 3-4 miscellaneous questions which were moderate in level.

Overall Analysis of SSC CHSL

The section General Aptitude was difficult than the section of reasoning, English and general knowledge. Overall level of difficulty for SSC CHSL 2017 was moderate. Students can safely attempt 72-87 questions out of 100 to clear the cut off for SSC CHSL 2017.
