SSC CHSL 2020 Tier 1 Exam is scheduled from March 16 – 27, 2020. It is an online computer based test having multiple choice questions. SSC CHSL Application Form 2020 is available at the official website since December 3, 2019.

  • Last day to apply for the exam is January 10, 2020. Candidates can apply through the official website of SSC CHSL.
  • SSC CHSL Tier 1 Syllabus is based on the topics covered in 10+2 standard namely, General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language.

Before moving to the topic-wise preparation strategy and tips candidates must go through the exam pattern as it is the base to formulate preparation schedule.

SSC CHSL 2020 Exam Pattern

SSC CHSL 2020 Tier 1 paper has 4 sections, each carries equal weightage in the paper i.e. 25 questions from each section. All correct answers carry 2 marks each and 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer, therefore be sure while marking option. The other details of SSC CHSL 2020 Exam Pattern are as follows:

Section-Wise Preparation Tips for SSC CHSL 2020

Let us get into the detailed analysis of each section covered in SSC CHSL 2020 Tier 1 exam and prepare a plan to ace it.

General Intelligence

  • The section is to test the candidate’s theoretical and factual knowledge rather than intellectual caliber.
  • Regular practice of solving the sample papers and past year papers would give clarity to a lot of topics in this section.
  • Mental alertness is required for logical reasoning questions and this can be brushed by going through different types of reasoning questions.
  • Topics to focus in this section are relationship concepts, visual memory, decision making, arithmetical number series, non-verbal series etc. Keep in mind to read questions properly, they may seem easy at first go which would result in silly mistakes.
  • Timing is the most important thing to keep in mind. If you get stuck on a question, leave it and move ahead rather than wasting time. Later on if time permits then come back on that question. Allocate equal time to each section.

Quantitative Aptitude

  • The questions in the Quantitative Aptitude section will be structured to test candidate’s understanding on use of numbers and numerical sense.
  • The level of complexity will be till grade 10th but it so happens at times that questions are above that level. Along with 9th and 10th NCERT books, prepare from Advance Mathematics books as well. 
  • Make basic strong in each topic so that you can attempt all types of questions.
  • Candidates should thoroughly practice questions from topics such as computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, relationship, between the numbers, percentage, ratio and proportion, square roots, average, interest, profit and loss, discounts, partnership, mixtures and allegation.
  • Foundation to strengthen quantitative aptitude section is revision of all the basic formulae used in mathematics. Without formulae it will be tough to solve questions from any topic.
  • Work on tricks and short cuts to solve questions in lesser time. This will come automatically by solving multiple questions from different topics. Keeping check of timing is important for this section as well.

General Awareness

  • The section of General Awareness should be easier as compared to other sections in the exam and if the candidate is regularly updated with surroundings then he/she can score will in this section.
  • The course for this section might seem endless but if you plan well, all topics can be covered. Keeping track of recent national and international events is important for this section as questions will be based on the same. 
  • Prepare notes of latest happenings around on a daily basis and keep going through these notes to memorize them.
  • Thorough revision of History, Geography, Art & Culture, Indian Polity & Constitution, Economy & Finance, Advancements in Science and Technology is important to prepare for this section. Start with topics which you are comfortable with and have prior knowledge then move to other topics.

English Language

  • Aim of this section is to test candidate’s writing ability, understanding correct English and comprehension.
  • Having a sound knowledge of English grammar is important for this section. Error detection and sentence improvement requires very strong hold on grammar. Learn grammar rules and use them in day to day conversations. This will help you remember all the rules and help you formulate correct sentences.
  • It is important to read the comprehension and know the correct answers. It may happen that candidates are confused between two answers therefore the trick of elimination will come into play here.

How to Prepare English Language for SSC CHSL?

Keeping all the above points in mind study the entire syllabus of SSC CHSL Tier I Exam and keep marking difficult points for further revisions. Study one book at a time for a particular subject for preparations so that you do not get confused. Give equal importance to each section. After completing the entire syllabus do several revisions.

Make a target to complete one sample paper in 60 minutes only and check for errors as in the main exam you will have negative markings. By doing this you will know in which section or topic you need to study more. Questions do get repeated sometimes in SSC exams, so you will be lucky if the questions which you practiced come up in the final paper. Be self-motivated and keep your studies in line with the pattern of the exam, there is no doubt that you will not be able to perform well.
