IBPS Clerk 2017 will be conducted in online mode in the first and second week of December 2017. IBPS Clerk exam is conducted to recruit personnel in Clerical Cadre Posts in various Participating Organizations across India.

  • IBPS Clerk 2017 will be a computer based test for time period of 60 minutes.
  • There will be 3 sections in the preliminary exam namely, English, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.
  • Each correct answer will be awarded with +1 mark while 0.25 marks will be deducted for wrong answer.
  • The syllabus covered in IBPS Clerk 2017 Prelims is of the level equivalent to Class 10.

IBPS Clerk 2017 Preliminary Exam Pattern

The pattern of IBPS Clerk 2017 Preliminary exam is such that, the questions will be asked bilingually in online mode. Three sections included in this phase of exam are- English, Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude.

  • Total time duration for the exam is 60 minutes.
  • Overall marking will be done out of 100 marks.
  • Negative marking is applicable in preliminary round of IBPS Clerk 2017.
  • IBPS Clerk Prelims will be gateway to the next stage of the recruitment process.

IBPS Clerk 2017 Prelims Syllabus

The syllabus for the three afore-mentioned sections in IBPS Clerk 2017 Prelims is similar to that in IBPS Clerk 2017 Mains. The topics covered in each of the section has been elaborated below:

English

The questions put up in English section are from various topics such as Reading Comprehension, cloze test, fillers, fill in the blanks, etc. Refer to the table given below for complete syllabus, approximate weightage and nature of questions.

Comprehension Passage (Story based) 8-10 marks Passages are asked with antonyms and synonyms of easy to moderate level.
Spellings/Detecting miss-spelt words 0-5 marks Detect errors in the given sentences. These are usually of Easy to Moderate level.
Fill in the Blanks 0-5 marks Usually the questions are asked in double fillers form comprising a level of easy to moderate.
Spotting Errors 0-5 marks Spot the error in given phrase or sentence.
Para jumbles 0-5 marks 5-6 sentences of a paragraph are need to be rearranged. These are usually of easy to moderate level.
Cloze test 5-10 marks Aspirants will have to supply words which have been removed from the passage.

Logical Reasoning

Logical Reasoning questions will, as the name suggests, test candidate’s ability to solve and respond to questions in a logical manner. Topics such as coding-decoding, linear sitting arrangements, analogy, blood relations, etc. will be covered. Sitting Arrangement/Puzzles 15-20 marks Questions are usually based on Linear/Circular or square arrangement, puzzles are usually row & floor based with 2-3 questions parameter
Alphanumeric/ Number Series 5 marks A series of alphabets are combined with numbers.
Miscellaneous 10 marks This section includes the question from topics like Blood Relations, Direction Sense, Order and Ranking etc.

Quantitative Ability

Quantitative Ability or Numerical Ability section has questions from Number series, data interpretation, equations, etc. Total 35 questions are asked for 1 mark each. For more information, see the table below:

Simplification/ Approximation 5-10 marks This topic deals with different sub topics such as Percentage and Average, ratio & proportions, partnerships, Profit & loss, calculations of simple & compound interests etc.
Data Interpretation 5-10 marks 1-2 sets of data interpretation are asked comprising of Line Graphs, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts, Tables, etc.
Quadratic Equations 0-5 marks In this you have to solve the given two variables to know the relation between both the variables.
Miscellaneous 10-12 marks This section includes questions from topics like age-based problems, Time Work and Wages, Mixture and Allegations, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit Loss and Discount, Boats and Streams, Probability
