IOCL Recruitment 2017: Apply for 89 Technician Apprentice Posts at Southern Region

IOCL has job vacancy as 89 Posts of Technician Apprentice at its various operating locations in Southern states of India- Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. 

Aspiring candidates must have completed their three-year diploma in the required disciplines as per the post that they are applying for.  Candidates who have acquired their required qualification through distance learning will not be eligible to apply.

The selection of the candidates will be done on the basis of a written test and personal interview. Candidates will have to qualify with minimum 40% marks to go for pre-employment medical fitness test.

IOCL Recruitment 2017 Eligibility Criteria

There are certain eligibility conditions laid down by IOCL to appoint Technician Apprentice at its Southern Region Marketing Division. The required eligibility conditions are as follows:

Educational Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess a three-year diploma in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/ Electrical and Electronics/ Instrumentation and Control/ Physics, Maths, Chemistry/ Industrial Chemistry) with minimum 50% of aggregate marks.
  • Candidates must not have working/apprenticeship experience beforehand.
  • It must be noted that candidate must not have completed 3 years after attaining the diploma.
  • Candidates with higher qualifications other than the mentioned will not be eligible to apply for IOCL 2017.


Candidates must not be less than 18 years or more than 24 years at the time of applying. Age relaxation will be provided to candidates of reserved categories. Candidates of SC/ST categories will be given relaxation of up to 5 years, while OBC candidates shall have relaxation of up to 3 years.

Applicants applying through PwD category shall have relaxation of up to 10 years (for SC/ST- Up to 15 years. For OBC- Up to 13 years)

IOCL Recruitment 2017 Pay Scale

The stipend for Technician Apprenticeship is between INR 6970 to INR 7530. An additional amount of INR 2500 will be paid if 90% wages are more than INR 7500 for Technical Apprenticeship, on the basis 90% of semi-skilled wages of State or central whichever is higher.

Similarly, INR 2500 shall be paid additionally, if 70-90% wages are more than INR 6970 for Trade Apprentice (Laboratory Assistant), on the basis of 70-90% of semi-skilled wages of State or central whichever is higher.

IOCL Recruitment 2017 How to Apply

The IOCL Application Form will be available from February 1, 2017 to February 13, 2017. Interested candidates will have to go through the following procedure to complete the application procedure:

  • Go to the official website of IOCL,
  • Click on ‘Career’ and ‘Latest Job Openings’ to proceed.
  • Fill in the application form completely by clicking on ‘engagement of apprentices in southern region (marketing division).
  • Upload the scanned copy of all the required documents (latest colour photograph, Marksheet of class 10th, documents of required qualification, caste certificates, etc.

Click on ‘apply’ and take the print copy of the application form.

IOCL Recruitment 2017 Verification of Documents

At the time of conducting personal interview, candidates will be asked to furnish the original as well as self-attested photocopies of the documents. Following is the list of documents which must be carried to the Interview session:

  • Matriculation/ class 10th certificate to verify date of birth of the candidate.
  • Latest caste certificate issued by competent authority.
  • Diploma certificate issued by the recognized institute stating it to be in regular mode.

Marksheet of all the semesters covered in the engineering diploma.

IOCL Recruitment 2017 Selection Process

The selection of the eligible candidates will be done on the basis of two phases- Written Test and Personal Interview. Candidates will have to perform such that they score minimum 40% in both the phases combinedly. There will be relaxation of up to 5% for reserved categories.

The written test will comprise of Multiple Choice Questions on relevant disciplines. The weightage of written test will be 85%, while interview session will have weightage of 15%.

Once the candidate is selected, they will be sent for Pre-employment medical test to ensure physical fitness of the applicant.

IOCL Recruitment 2017 General Instructions

There are some general instructions which have been given by IOCL for the convenience of the interested applicants. Some of the highlights of the instructions are given below:

  • Go through the eligibility conditions carefully before applying for IOCL Recruitment.
  • Do not wait for the closing date, apply well before February 13, 2017.
  • Keep a print out of the application form with you for further reference.
  • Candidates must apply for one discipline code only.
  • Candidature will be provisional, candidates will have to get their documents verified first.
  • Upon completion of the Apprenticeship period IOCL shall have no obligation to offer employment to such apprentices NOR can an Apprentice claim right for employment on the grounds of completion of Apprenticeship.
