The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has changed the eligibility criteria for the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana Exam 2020. The decision came in the wake of the COVID crisis.The authority took the decision keeping in mind the future uncertainties regarding the COVID outbreak. The KVPY 2020 exam is scheduled to be conducted on January 31, 2021. To help the students financially, the Department of Science and Technology provides concession in fees in the form of grants and fellowships.
The Department has reformed the eligibility criteria for the students coming from all the three streams i.e., SA, SX, and SB. The revised eligibility criteria are given as under:
Eligibility: To be eligible for the KVPY test in the SA stream, a student must have cleared his/her class 10th and should opt for the Science stream for class 12th. They will be required to submit a studying certificate of class 11th once they get selected as per the provisional list.
Fellowship Activation: The fellowship will be activated only if they opt for an undergraduate course in Basic Science (BSc/BS/BStat./BMath./ Int. MSc/ Int MS ) in the academic year 2022-23 after securing at least 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in total in Science subjects in class 12th (10+2).
KVPY will invite students for NSC (National Science Camp). KVPY will also pay for their travel expenses and local hospitality during the interim phase of one year.

Eligibility Criteria: Students who are enrolling for class 12th in 2020-21 and are willing to join UG courses in Basic Science (BSc./BS./BStat./B Math./ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S.) for the session 2021–22. Also, the student must have scored at least 75% (65% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects in the class 10th examination.
Fellowship Activation: The fellowship for stream SX will be activated only if they join for a UG program in Basic Science (BSc./BS/BStat/BMath./ Int MSc/ Int MS) in the] session 2021-22 after having scored at least 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the XII standard/(+2) Board Examination.
Eligibility Criteria: Students who have cleared their XII Board Examination and are eligible to apply in the 1st year for courses in basic science such as BSc./BS/BStat/BMath/ Int. M.Sc./ Int. M.S. during the academic session 2020–21 can register for KVPY 2020 aptitude test. They will have to give proof of studying in the 1st year of the basic science courses in the form of a study certificate.
Fellowship Activation: It will be activated only if they join/have joined for a UG program in Basic Science (BSc./BS/BStat/BMath/ Int. MSc/ Int. M.S.) in the session 2020-21 after scoring at least 60% (50% for SC/ST & PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in 1styear of BSc./BS./BStat./B. Math./Int. M.Sc./Int. M.S.
The Department of Science and Technology provides various fellowships and grants. Fellowships ranging from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 7000 per month are provided by the Government of India. Moreover, contingency grants are also offered to SB stream students.
KVPY is a national level exam for the fellowship in basic science courses such as BSc., BS, etc. that is conducted for 3 hours. It is funded by the Department of Science and Technology. It is conducted in two stages. The first stage is named Aptitude Test and the second round is named the Interview phase. The details of the exam are given in the table.
