The Union Public Services Commission conducts IES Exam to recruit eligible candidates in various departments of Civil, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, and Mechanical disciplines. IES is conducted in 3 stages and the cutoff for each stage is released separately.
As per the commission, cut off for qualifying preliminary exam is set to 15% i.e. 75 out of 500 for General category. UPSC has set IES Mains Cut Off to 20% of the total marks. Candidates qualifying the same will then be called for interview session. The final merit list is prepared after adding the marks of candidates in the UPSC Prelims, Mains and the Personality Test i.e. Interview.

Prelims cut off in 2016 was the highest in all categories but have decreased to the lowest in 2017.
