IES 2018 will be conducted by UPSC for recruitment to various posts in Indian Engineering Services. IES is also known as ESE (Engineering Services Exam). IES 2018 will be conducted in 3 stages- Prelims, Mains and Personal Interview. Candidates will be recruited for various fields such as Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical engineering and Telecommunication Engineering based on their performance in IES 2018.

To apply for various job posts in the core engineering fields such as Civil, Mechanical, Telecommunication and Electronics and Electrical Engineering, candidates must fulfill following eligibility conditions:
IES 2018 registration process is completely online. Candidates are required to visit the official website of UPSC to apply for IES 2018. Candidates shall be able to begin the IES 2018 Application Form filling process in the last week of September, 2017, as soon as the notification is released. The registration for IES 2018 is done in two parts- Registration Part I and Registration Part II.
In the first part of registration, candidates will have to visit the official website to enter personal details and submit them. This will bring them to the next step of registration process i.e. Application Fee payment.
Payment of Application Fee
The application fee can be remitted via online as well as offline mode. Candidate will be redirected to a new page where he/she will have to choose the mode of payment. If the candidate chooses to pay online, facilities like credit card/debit card or net banking will be available. In case of offline mode of payment, a pay-in-slip shall be provided for cash payment at nearest branch of State Bank of India.
Fill in your exam centre choices along with engineering core branch once you have successfully paid your application fee. Candidates will have to communicate other details as well before moving to the next step.
Upload required documents
Submit all the required information and move on to upload your scanned copy of passport size photograph and clearly visible signatures in the given dimensions. Check mark the declaration to complete the registration process.
IES admit card for both the written papers are released separately. Candidates must take note that the admit card is released 3 weeks before the commencement of the exam. While in the Part II registration of IES 2018, candidates are asked to choose the IES Exam center for preliminary examinations, according to their preference. IES 2018 comprises of three stages- Prelims, Mains and finally Personal Interview. Preliminary exam is an objective paper whereas Mains exam is a conventional paper. Candidates will have to clear prelims to appear for Mains examination. Those who qualify will proceed to the personality test. Candidates who will qualify to the IES Cut off set by UPSC will proceed to IES 2018 Mains exam. There are 2 conventional type papers- Paper 1 and paper 2, in the IES 2018 Mains exam, each weighing 300 marks.

The medium of Mains exam paper will be English only. 5% marks will be deducted from the total marks scored by the candidate if the handwriting is not easily legible.
Personal Interview: shortlisted candidates will be called for personal interview session. Candidates will be judged of his/her leadership skills, personality and intellect. 200 marks are allotted to the personality test (interview test).

IES 2018 Results will be declared separately for each stage of the examination. Candidates must regularly check the official website of UPSC to stay updated with the status of result declaration. Candidates who will qualify the prelims shall only proceed to the mains examination, those who do not qualify will not be able to sit for IES 2018 Mains exam.

Once the exam results are declared, candidates must check the IES 2018 cut off by visiting the official website and ensure that they qualify to the next stage. The cut off will be released within a week of the declaration of results. Candidates will need to score over or equal to the qualifying marks to enter the next stage of the examination.

The written exam comprises of two exams- Preliminary and Mains. Candidates are required to qualify to the IES cut off set by commission. Clearing IES 2018 Prelims is essential to proceed to the IES 2018 Mains Exam. The mains exam is qualifying criteria for Personal Interview session. Shortlisted candidates will be called for final stage i.e. Personality Test. The final results and merit list form the basis of an appointment letter in the name of the candidate.
