The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection is an autonomous agency in India. It is the institution that conducts the examination for the recruitment of candidates in the banking sector. The IBPS exam is conducted through CWE which is a general written test.Annual examination for both the posts is conducted by the organization. Both RRB PO and IBPS PO are attractive jobs with a lump sum salary. However, RRB is conducted to recruit bank PO for rural banks.

Job Description The primary duty of an RRB officer is to bring banking services to rural areas of India. RRB officers are trained to perform multi-tasks and perform duties.
IBPS probationary officers and managers in banks are in the customer branch and maintain and supervise regular branch activities.
Salary Basic pay- 23,700 In-hand salary- 29,000 to 33,000 Basic Pay- 14,500
In Hand Salary- 35,000 to 40,000
Exam pattern The IBPS RRB consists of 2 written exams, prelims and mains. There is an additional interview round for those candidates who have applied for the Officer Scale 1 (PO) position. Candidates need to clear prelims to qualify for the main examination. Candidates are required to be well aware of the syllabus of both the phases.
The IBPS Department offers PO / MT examinations in two parts. The IBPS pre exam time is 1 hour. It consists of 100 questions with a total of 100 marks which consists of Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Subject. All the questions are objective type.
The IBPS Main Exam consists of 200 questions of total 200 marks and time is fixed for all subjects in this exam. It will be mandatory to do all the questions in the given time. The total exam time is 140 minutes. 
Syllabus This paper will be a total of 2 hours in which 40 questions of 40 numbers of Reasoning and 40 questions of 40 numbers of Numerical Ability will be asked. In this way 80 questions of total 80 numbers will be asked.
In the IBPS RRB Mains exam, 50 questions of 50 number reasoning, 50 number of numerical ability 40 questions, 40 questions of general awareness number 40, 40 questions of English / Hindi language, 40 questions of 20 computer numbers. Will go In this way 200 questions of a total 200 numbers will be asked. The examination will be of 2 hours.
IBPS PO exam is objective type, in which five subjects are there, English Language, Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Knowledge, and Computer Knowledge Test. All the subjects are of different marks and there is also a negative marking of the wrong answer which affects the score. 0.25 marks are deducted for each wrong answer. The Main syllabus includes Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, English, General Knowledge and Computer subjects. All the questions are objective type.
Work profile Selected candidates will be on probation for 2 years.
Branch Operations and Customer Service - To manage all branch operations such as cash deposit, cash withdrawal, check collection, account opening, pension and salary payment, documentation etc.
Agriculture, Micro-Enterprises and Retail Loans - RRB's loan book is in 75% priority sector. RRB PO will be doing loan recovery (mostly Kisan Credit Card) for field visits, documentation, credit appraisal, retail and agriculture loans
People Management, MIS and Miscellaneous - Being an officer you have to manage clerks and other junior employees. Every branch and department has many reports and data related functions. Monthly, quarterly MIS to be submitted.
Probationary officers and managers in banks deal with and maintain customers and oversee regular branch activities.
To take care of public relations, monitor and regulate branch activities and functions, resolve customer related issues and complaints, monitor and monitor daily branch and customer transactions and handle loan processing.
An assistant manager is expected to multitask and verify the work done by the clerk whenever required. Also, always being aware of the policies and decisions made by the management and implementing them in the functioning of your branch.

How to choose between IBPS PO and IBPS RRB PO Scale I

For some candidates, choosing between IBPS PO and IBPS RRB PO often becomes a challenge. Basically, it depends on the candidate's priority and their long-term planning. In this regard, it is important to mention that IBPS PO is next to SBI PO in terms of salary and promotional aspects, but at the same time, RRB PO can offer you home posting.

Place of posting

  • Posting is done in rural areas as suggested by the names in RRB.
  • The reason behind the existence of RRBs is the development of rural and backward areas, and also to provide banking facilities to the rural population.
  • The scope of the IBPS RRB is limited to agriculture, small-scale loans, handicrafts and other small sector loans.

Effective tips for preparing IBPS PO and RRB

All topics are important in the exam. Questions can come from any topic. It should also be noted that in the preparation of all topics must start from early days. Do not leave any topic for last minute preparation.

  • Use the time before the exam for revision and relaxation.
