According to the Union Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai, there are major number of vacancies in BSF, CRPF, CISF, SSB, ITBP and Assam Rifles. Most of these vacancies are caused due to retirement, resignation and death. The highest number of vacancies are there in BSF which is 28,926. This is closely followed by CRPF at 26,506. CISF has 23906 vacancies while 18643 vacancies are there is SSB. Assam Rifles and ITBP has 7328 and 5784 vacancies respectively. Most of the posts which are vacant for constable, according to the reports. According to Rai, there is a well-established and systematic procedure to conduct a recruitment drive for such vacancies through direct recruitment or promotion and deputation process- this is done as per the extant provisions of Recruitment Rules. For now, the government has taken expeditions to fill up the CRPF vacancies which is an ongoing and continuous process. There are 60210 vacancies for constables, 2534 vacancies for sub-inspector, 330 posts of assistant commandant. Recruitment process for all these posts is undertaken by the Staff Selection Commission and the UPSC.
