February 10, 2021: The UPSC Civil Service Exam Notification has been released by the Union Public Service Commission. Interested candidates can check the notification on the commission’s official website The application process will begin on February 10, 2021, and end on March 2, 2021.

UPSC Notification 2021 - Eligibility Criteria


A candidate applying for the UPSC CSE 2021 IAS, IFS & IPS posts should be a citizen of India. For other UPSC CSE Services, candidates must be either:

– a citizen of India (or)
– a subject of Nepal (or)
– a subject of Bhutan (or)
– a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanently settling in India (or)
– a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to the above categories except Indian Citizen should have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit

The candidate must be between the age range of 21-32 years as on August 1, 2021. This means that candidates must have been born not earlier than August 02, 1989, and not later than August 01, 2000. The following table contains the age relaxation details for different categories:

Defence Services Personnel* 3 Years
Ex-servicemen* 5 Years
PWD Candidates 10 Years
  • Defence Services Personnel, disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof will be given 3 Years relaxation
  • Ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on 1st August 2021 and have been released will be given 5 Years relaxation

Minimum Educational Qualifications

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent qualification from any recognized University.

Number of Attempts

A candidate is only eligible for 6 attempts.

UPSC Notification 2021 - How to Appy?

Candidates who wish to apply for the UPSC Notification 2021 can do so by following the steps mentioned below:

  • Step 1: Visit the official UPSC website
  • Step 2: Click on “Online Application For Various Examinations of UPSC”.
  • Step 3: Click on the link provided for Part 1 Registration for UPSC CSE 2021. Read the instructions carefully and click on “Yes”.
  • Step 4: Enter the required information. 
  • Step 5: Click on the “Continue” button and verify the details you have provided.
  • Step 6: Pay the application fee through your desired mode of payment.
  • Step 7: Enter the required details and select your choice of exam centres (three choices are allowed).
  • Step 8: Verify the details and submit the form.
  • Step 9: Upload the required documents and click on “I agree” to approve the declaration.
  • Step 10: Take a printout of the form for future reference.
