It has been notified that last year after the IAS prelims exam, a group of applicants filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court of India that the Corona warriors and patients should be granted an extra attempt in the Civil Service Exam 2021.In the IAS Exam 2021, the Supreme Court considered their plea and instructed the UPSC to look into these factors. In its written reply, UPSC said that an additional attempt can be considered, but needs the approval of the Ministry of Personnel for this.

However, in order to proceed with the hearing, the Supreme Court requested the Government of India to send its reply before the court. It is appropriate for the Union Government to bring its decision before the court. Giving an additional attempt to address the objections of all those applicants who were serving as corona warriors and COVID-19 positive in the IAS exam 2021 would address the complaints and could not study for the IAS exam.

The decision on an extra attempt is still pending with the Government of India for the UPSC IAS Exam 2021. The UPSC notification could be postponed by one week, possibly because of this. The other way around is that the UPSC will issue the notice on time and later apply the eligibility criteria and allow more time for the application filling process.
