February 10, 2021: On February 9, 2021, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it will not be granting the relaxation in age limit for the UPSC IAS aspirants who have exhausted their last attempt in 2020. Earlier, the centre had agreed to grant one last chance to UPSC Civil Services aspirants who used their last attempt during the pandemic but now it seems that they have changed their mind.

This decision was told to a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar which reserved its verdict on a plea that sought one more chance for aspirants who missed due to pandemic. Additional Solicitor General S V Raju informed that initially the government was not willing to concede the extra chance and it was later done at the suggestion of the bench.

According to a report, Raju told the bench, “This is not the exam where you prepare at the last minutes. People prepare for years together.”

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the UPSC notification 2021 on its official website. The last date for submission of the IAS application is March 2, 2021.
