The central government will recruit approximately 896 officers through civil services examinations. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has opened the registration window for civil services preliminary exam on February 19. Interested candidates can apply at upsconline.nic.in. Read more

Note: Out of 896 seats, 39 vacancies are reserved for Persons with Benchmark Disability Category. The 10 percent Economically Weaker Section reservation is also applicable.

As per the schedule, IAS exam​ (Prelims) is scheduled for June 2, 2019. Candidates qualifying the exam can then appear for mains, scheduled for June 2, 2019. The UPSC IFS will be conducted on December 1, 2019. Check IAS Exam Pattern

Given below are the number of seats available for this year via the recruitment exam. In 2018, a notification for posts of 782 officers was issued by the Union Public Service Commission – the lowest in six years.

Conclusion: While there is a rise in the number of posts from the previous year, a look at the data of the previous seven years shows the vacancies continue to be low.

UPSC IAS Eligibility

If you want to apply for the exam, then you must satisfy the eligibility criteria set by the Union Public Service Commission. Here are the Eligibility Criteria set by UPSC:

  • Applicants must be the citizen of India, first.
  • Applicant must satisfy the minimum physical standard as per prescribed in the official notification.
  • The minimum and maximum age of the candidates must be 21 years and 32 years respectively as on August 1, 2019.
  • The relaxation in the upper age for the candidates of the SC and ST category will be 5 years and for the OBC category will be of 3 years.
  • Applicant must possess a graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or from the central government.

Documents Required

Candidates are advised to assemble the following documents before starting the registration to ensure accurate and correct data. Any mismatch between the actual information and the registered information will result in cancellation of candidature from UPSC CSE:

  • Class X Mark sheet
  • Class XII Mark sheet
  • Graduation Mark sheet
  • Medical certificate(if applicable)
  • Disability Certificate(if applicable)
  • Category certificate(if applicable)
  • Scanned Photograph
  • Scanned Signature

IAS Exam Registration

UPSC CSE 2019 application process is divided into two parts. In part I, candidates will have to visit the official website upsconline.nic.in and fill in the ONLINE RECRUITMENT APPLICATION(ORA). Candidates must enter correct and functional email address as all correspondence will be made by the UPSC through email only. 

In the second part of the registration, candidates will be redirected to the payment step, selection of the examination centers. You should verify all the information entered before submission. Candidates will also have to upload scanned image of passport size photo and signature in JPEG format along with photo identity card document. After uploading the images, click on “I Agree” to approve the declaration and submit the complete IAS Online Form. 

You should take a printout of the submitted ORA for future references, they are not required to send the application by post/hand to UPSC.

IAS Exam Pattern

Civil Services Preliminary Examination will comprise of General Studies (Paper I) and General Studies (Paper II), which carry 200 marks each.

The Paper 1 will be General Studies I (GS I) comprising many sections including Economics, Geography, Political Science, and Science, and the Paper 2 is known as General Studies II (GS II) which will test the aptitude of Civil Services Aspirants. 

The GS II paper is also known as Civil Services Aptitude Test(CSAT). The duration of both the paper will be two hours each. A candidate has to qualify with a minimum of 33% marks. IAS Exam Selection Procedure

The Prelims round of UPSC CSE is a screening test held to shortlist candidates for CSE Mains. The candidates, who will be shortlisted through preliminary examination will have to appear for UPSC Civil Services Mains Examination 2019. The mains examination will be conducted in the month of September 2019. Candidates who will clear UPSC CSE 2019 Mains round, will be called for personality development test and interview.

Based on the candidates merit rank in the selection process, candidates are recruited in three types of services: All India Services, Central Services, and State Services.
