IAS (UPSC CSE) Mains 2021 Punjabi Syllabus

The IAS (UPSC CSE) exam 2021 is commenced in three stages, Prelims, Mains and Interview. To appear for the IAS (UPSC CSE) Mains exam, the candidates should choose one optional paper. The optional paper is the major pillar in deciding the ranking of the candidates. As per the current data, the success rate of the aspirants is leaping high in the past few years.

Punjabi is widely used in the State of Punjab, which is known as the Indo-Aryan language. Apart from Punjab, the language is also used in Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and in a few parts of Uttarakhand, Jammu and Uttar Pradesh. Punjabi is considered as one of the official languages of India, which is written both in Persian derived Shahmukhi script and Gurumukhi.

You can choose Punjabi language as an optional subject, if you have graduated in the literature of Punjabi language as the main subject. With well-planned strategies, you can easily score well in the Punjabi literature. Interest should be the prime criteria for choosing any optional. Each Punjabi paper consists of 250 marks. IAS (UPSC CSE) Mains Punjabi Syllabus

Punjabi has a vast literary tradition of novels, poetic works and essays. Punjabi literature covers topics like history of literature, major literary traditions, development of Gurumukhi script, major dialects. The subject also consists the critical analysis of major works by the eminent authors of Punjabi.

Section A

  • Origin of Punjabi language: different stages of development and recent development in Punjabi language: characteristics of Punjabi phonology and the study of its tones: classification of vowels and consonants.
  • Punjabi morphology: the numbergender system (animate and inanimate), prefixes, affixes and different categories of Post positions: Punjabi word formation: Tatsam. Tad Bhav forms: Sentence structure, the notion of subject and object in Punjabi: Noun and verb phrases.
  • Language and dialect; the notions of dialect and idiolect; major dialects of Punjabi; Pothohari, Majhi, Doabi, Malwai, Puadhi; the validity of speech variation on the basis of social stratification, the distinctive features of various dialects with special reference to tones. Language and script; origin and development of Gurmukhi; suitability of Gurmukhi for Punjabi.
  • Classical background; Nath Jogi Sahit Medieval literature: Gurmat, Sufti, Kissa and Var Janamsakhis.

  • Modern Mystic, romantic, progressive Trends and neomystic (Vir Singh, Puran Singh, Mohan Singh, Amrita Pritam, Bawa Balwant, Pritam Singh Safeer, J.S. Neki). Experimentalist (Jasbir Singh Ahluwalia, Ravinder Ravi, Ajaib Kamal) Aesthetes (Harbhajan Singh, Tara Singh) Neo-progressive (Pash. Jagtar, Patar) Origin and Development of Genres :

IAS (UPSC CSE) Mains Punjabi Paper 2

Answers must be written in Punjabi in Gurumukhi Script

This paper will require first-hand reading of the texts prescribed and will be designed to test the candidate’s critical ability.
