IAS Prelims 2018 is scheduled on June 3, 2018. The IAS Prelims is the first stage of the civil services examination conducted by the UPSC. Here are some highlights about the upcoming preliminary level of prestigious examination.
The IAS Prelims Exam Pattern is based on the Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQ) format with 2 mandatory papers of 200 marks each. Civil Services examination is conducted to recruit candidates for 19 highly reputable Group A & 5 Group B civil service posts.
UPSC will release the notification for IAS Prelims during the last week of April 2018. UPSC will conduct the IAS Prelims Examination on June 3, 2018. UPSC has set certain IAS Prelims Eligibility criteria that the candidates appearing for the examination are obliged to fulfill. The IAS Prelims Eligibility for 2018 includes the academic qualification, age limit, number of attempts, physical standards, and citizenship criteria. The candidates wishing to apply for the Civil services Examination have to first apply for IAS Prelims. The IAS Prelims 2018 Application Form will be available from the last week of April 2018. The process of filling the IAS Prelims Application Form is summarized below:
Step 1 Registration for Part I: Enter the details Name, Gender, Category, Nationality and other personal details.
Step 2 Payment of Application: Select the payment mode.
Step 3 Registration for Part II: Complete the other details of the IAS Application form.
Step 4 Uploading the Images: Upload the photograph & signature in accordance with the given specifications. With this, the IAS Prelims Application Form is completed. The applicants can finally submit the application form & note the Reg ID.
The candidates should remit a fee of INR 100 Rupees One Hundred only. There is an exception for the SC/ST/ Female/Physically Handicapped candidates and they need not pay the fee.
The candidates can remit the fee either by depositing the money in any branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India/State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/ State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using any Visa/Master Credit/ Debit Card.
UPSC will issue the IAS Prelims 2018 Admit Card 3 weeks before the commencement of the IAS Prelims 2018. The IAS Prelims Admit Card will be issued to those applicants who are considered eligible for the IAS Prelims 2018 based on the application form they have submitted.
The IAS Prelims 2018 Admit Card will be available online on the official website of UPSC (upsc.gov.in). The examination authority will not send the IAS Prelims 2018 e-admission certificate by post.
If the applicants do not receive the admit card 3 weeks before the Examination, they should immediately contact the Commission at the Facilitation Counter located in the Commission’s Office either in person. Otherwise, they can address the same issue over the phone at the following numbers:
If the candidate does not receive any response even after addressing the issue, then the candidate will be solely responsible for the non-receipt of the IAS Prelims 2018 Admit Card.
Note: Receipt of admit card does ensure their eligibility for the entire civil service examination as the complete verification of eligibility is conducted by the commission only after the candidate has qualified for the IAS Mains 2018.

The applicants have to fill the IAS Prelims 2018 Exam Center choice while filling the part II of the IAS Prelims Application Form. There are different sets of exam centers for both IAS Prelims & IAS Mains. The availability of the exam centers is based on the first cum first Allot basis. There is a total of 72 IAS Prelims 2018 Exam centers. It is advisable that the applicants fill the application form as early as possible to get the center of their choice because once the center outnumbers the number of candidates the center option freezes and the applicants cannot select the center anymore.

Note: General Studies Paper (Paper II) is a qualifying paper. The minimum qualifying marks are 33%.

The IAS Prelims Result is usually announced one month after the examination has been conducted. The tentative date of IAS Prelims 2017 is June 3, 2018. Hence the IAS Prelims 2018 Result will be declared by the month of September. The candidates have to access their IAS Prelims Result from the official website of UPSC. The candidates have to download the pdf and check for their roll no to obtain their scores.
The IAS Examination is a 3 staged examination, the first stage being the IAS Prelims. The candidates qualifying the IAS Prelims have to undergo the IAS Examination Selection process summarized below;
The total marks of Paper I of IAS Prelims along with the minimum qualifying marks of 33 % in case of Paper II is considered for shortlisting candidates for the IAS Main.
The IAS Main Examination consists of two qualifying papers and 7 papers that are to be counted for merit.
The interview or personality test is the ultimate stage of the Civil Service examination. Those candidates who have qualified the IAS Mains minimum qualifying marks and the IAS Main Cut off will be further intimidated individually for the interview. The interview is a rigorous selection process where the candidates are personally assessed on multiple aspects that are required to become an ideal civil servant.
