SBI PO 2019: Strategy to Prepare for Reasoning Section

It is not a time consuming section, if the practice is done nicely. Logical Reasoning is one of those sections where you stand to score more with continuous practice of quality questions rather than the reading rules and regulations. Pick up the question for solving only before understanding it.

Analyze and find out your strong topics, weak topics and the moderate ones. Polish your strong areas and put your all efforts in practicing your weak sections. You can also check your practice status by giving the sectional tests.

There may be 1 puzzle of 5 questions based on: Double Lineup OR Scheduling. Questions asked are always mixed up of several other topics such as seating arrangement, direction, blood relation, etc.

Most people get frightened by the length of the question and then they don’t attempt it. Actually, they are relatively easy, so don’t be afraid of making an effort for them. Once you get the puzzle, it is easy to fetch 5-6 questions in one go. Try at least 10-15 different sets of each type of Puzzle. Make sure, you attempt the Puzzle section at the end and before solving the puzzle, read the based questions first and then solve the puzzles.

Data Sufficiency

Around 3 to 5 questions are asked on Data Sufficiency topic. Try these problems from a wide range of chapters including Directions & Distances, Ordering & Ranking, Blood Relations, Coding & Decoding in bogus language etc. These are generally easy and scoring but Blood Relation problems may be tricky. Once you get the trick, you have fetched the marks in your pocket! So, practice each kind of question nicely.

Sample Questions-

The data sufficiency problem consists of a question and two statements, labeled (1) and (2), in which certain data are given. You have to decide whether the data given in the statements are sufficient for answering the question. Using the data given in the statements, plus your knowledge of mathematics and everyday facts (such as the number of days in a leap year or the meaning of the word counterclockwise), you must indicate whether - 

  1. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
  2. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient to answer the question asked.
  3. BOTH statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are sufficient to answer the question asked, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked.
  4. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient to answer the question asked.
  5. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient to answer the question asked, and additional data specific to the problem are needed.
