DMRC Stenographer Job Profile

The basic work of the stenographer is to take short-hand for secretarial assistance. They use short-hand and a steno-machine to transcribe information and commit it to the public record.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Stenographer transcribes spoken words by typing them into a steno machine, a kind of shorthand typewriter.
  • Fast and accurate typing skills are vital for a stenographer job.
  • Stenographers have to be licensed and certified in addition to passing a special exam.

Salary Structure 

  • Pay scale ranges from INR 10170 to INR 18500 per month.
  • Other incentives range from INR 1000-8000 per month.

DMRC Stenographer Eligibility

Age limit: Age of the candidate must be between 18 years and 28 years.

A relaxation in this is given to -

  • OBC - 3years
  • SC/ST - 5 years
  • Ex-servicemen- subject to maximum age of 40 years
  • PwD (general)- 10 years
  • PwD (OBC) – 13 years
  • PwD (SC/ST) – 15 years

Educational qualification: should have completed the Degree and possess a graduation certificate in any discipline from a Government recognized university.

  • 80 w.p.m. speed in Short-Hand in English or Hindi.
  • Certificate of one-year course in Office Management and Secretarial Practice

Medical fitness –

  • A naked vision of 6/6 is required.
  • For Post C1, Indian Rly. Medical Manual required as per medical standard.

Application form for DMRC Recruitment 2018 is expected to start in month of November in 2017(tentative). The last date of filling the application form is 3rd week of December 2017.

DMRC Stenographer Selection Process

There are 4 stages of selection procedure that the candidate has to go through to get selected for the post of stenography in the DMRC. The four stages comprises:

  1. Written Test (Two papers)
  2. Psycho Test (Qualifying)
  3. Personal Interview
  4. Medical examination in A-1 category

A candidate will be selected for the job only if he/she is able to clear all the tests.


DMRC Stenographer Exam Pattern

The written exam consists of 2 papers. Both the papers will be held on the same day at the same DMRC exam centre. Paper 1 will be bilingual (Hindi and English). Candidates need to attain the minimum qualifying marks in both the paper to clear the exam and move to the next round.

Paper 1: MCQ based questions are given to solve. There will be total 120 questions which need to solve. Time duration of this paper is 90 MINUTES.

Paper 2: MCQ type question. It will have 60 questions for 45 minutes of duration.

Marking Scheme

  • For every right answer: +1 Mark

DMRC Stenographer Results

The list of candidates who are selected after the tests will be released by the organization. This merit list will be considered for the final selection procedure. The joining letter regarding the same will be sent to the candidates via mail or via the postal address they have given during registration. DMRC Stenographer Cut off

The DMRC Recruitment Results will be announced on the official website in the PDF format. The cut off is prepared based on

  • Total number of candidates appears in the exam
  • Difficulty level of the paper
  • Marking scheme
  • Number of seats available

Shortlisted candidates are called for the selection process, which comprises of three steps i.e. written test, Psycho Test and Personal interview. Candidates who cleared the written test will be called for Psycho test and personal interview. In the interview candidates have to face the panel of four or more interviewers.
