Central Teaching Eligibility Test (CTET) is a national level examination conducted by CBSE to certify the eligibility of candidates to be recruited as teachers for classes I-VIII in government and aided school. The main aim behind introducing this exam is to bring national standards and set a benchmark for teaching quality in the recruitment process.

  • CTET 2020 will be held twice in February and July.
  • CTET Registration for February 2020 session will begin in the month of December, 2019.
  • The exam has two papers, Paper 1 is for primary teachers and Paper 2 is for elementary teachers. 
  • The eligibility to appear in these papers also varies. 
  • CTET is a 2.5 hours long, pen paper based exam having 150 questions.
  • The syllabus includes Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I and II, Maths, Science, Environmental and Social Studies. 
  • CTET qualifiers are awarded with eligibility certificate with a validity period of 7 years.

CTET 2020 Dates

CBSE will release the official notification of CTET 2020 along with exam schedule. Meanwhile, candidates can check the tentative CTET exam dates from below table:

CTET Eligibility 2020

The minimum age to be eligible to apply for CTET 2020 is 18 years. Educational qualification requirement for primary and upper primary teachers are different. Read it below: 

Qualifications for Primary Teacher (Classes I-V)

Candidates must have qualified Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known)

OR

Candidates must have qualified Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with minimum 45% marks and passed/ appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.

OR

Candidates must have qualified Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/ appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed). OR Qualified Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*.

OR

Graduation/passed/appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).

Qualifications for Elementary Teacher (Classes VI-VIII)

Graduation/passed/appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known). OR Candidates must have Graduated with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).

OR

Candidates must have Graduated with minimum 45% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.

OR

Qualified Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

OR

Qualified Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in final year of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed. OR Candidates must have Graduated with at least 50% marks and passed/appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)*.


CTET 2020 Application Form

CTET 2020 Registration can be filled via Online mode only. The online application process includes filling the form, uploading documents, paying the requisite fee and downloading the confirmation page. Steps to fill CTET 2020 Application Form are mentioned below:

Step 1 – Filling Application Form

  • Visit the official site i.e. ctet.nic.in.
  • Click on “Apply for CTET 2019” and you’ll be directed to the application page.
  • Enter all the personal, academic, communication details etc. carefully as mentioned in class X certificate.
  • Choose 3 prefered exam centers, paper option and language.
  • Enter the security text. 

Step 2 – Uploading Documents 

  • Upload scanned images of your passport size photograph and signature in prescribed jpg format.
  • After successful uploading of documents, you’ll be redirected to the fee payment page.

Step 3 – Paying Application Fee

  • Choose from either online or offline payment method.
  • For online payment, select the gateway i.e debit card/ credit card or net banking.
  • For offline payment, download e-challan and deposit the application fee in Canara or Syndicate Bank.

Step 4 – Download Confirmation Page

  • Filled-in application form and e-receipt of fee payment will appear on the screen.
  • Download and print it for future reference.

CTET 2020 Application Fee

The application fee depends on category of the candidate and number of papers selected:

Paper General/OBC/EWS SC/ST/PwD
Only Paper 1 or Paper 2 INR 600 INR 300
Both Papers INR 1000 INR 500

CTET Exam Pattern 2020

CTET Exam includes 2 papers- Paper 1 for the Primary level and Paper 2 for Elementary level teachers.

  • Candidates who wish to teach classes I-V have to take Paper 1.
  • Candidates who wish to teach classes VI-VIII have to take Paper 2 .
  • Both the papers carry 150 multiple choice questions for 150 marks to finish in 150 minutes. 
  • There is no negative marking applicable in the exam.

Know exam pattern

CTET Result and Qualifying Marks

CBSE releases the result of CTET on its official website. It has also specified minimum qualifying marks in order to clear the exam. The qualifying marks vary as per category of the candidate:

CBSE issues CTET Eligibility Certificate to qualified candidates which certifies the eligibility of the candidates to be recruited as teachers. The validity of eligibility certificate is 7 years from the date of issue.
