CDS 2018 Results will be available at the official website for UPSC, Results for CDS 1 will be available from May 2018 while for CDS 2, it will be announced in February 2018.

  • Results will be available online only
  • Candidates may download CDS 2018 Results directly from the official website of UPSC by entering the credentials which include candidate's name, guardian’s name and roll number
  • CDS 2018 Results will be declared in the pdf format and candidates can check their name in the list
  • CDS 2018 Score Card will also be available which will contain the rank, marks scored and qualification for the next round
  • Candidates must take a print out of the same to appear for the interview
  • Final score card will be released after 5 days of SSB interview

CDS (Combined Defense Services) examination is conducted by UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) which is responsible for providing admission to students in Indian Naval Academy, Officers’ Training Academy, Air Force Academy and Indian Military Academy. The examination is conducted twice in a year which is generally referred to as CDS 1 and CDS 2.

Dates for CDS 2018 Results

All the important dates for CDS 2018 examination is tabulated below. However, the dates are tentative and subject to change as per discretion. Students are suggested to check with the official site of UPSC time and again to be updated regarding the important dates for CDS 2018 Examination.

How to Check CDS 2018 Results?

CDS 2018 Results are out in 3 months approximately after the students have given their examination. The date of the announcement of results for CDS 1 is May 2018 whereas the result date for CDS 2 is February 2018.

Students can check with their respective results online on the official site of UPSC once they are out. Results can be viewed by the students by entering their roll number, candidate’s name and candidate’s guardian’s name.

Steps to log in to view the CDS 2018 results are as follows:

  • Go to the official site of UPSC.
  • Find Combined Defence Services Exam
  • Tap on the results section.
  • Enter the roll number, name and guardian’s name.
  • Click on submit
  • View the results.

Students must take a print out of their respective results as they would be needing it at the time of counselling to get admission in the desired colleges.

Students might face the issue of server down as there would be many applicants who would be checking their respective results at the same time. This will create massive over load on their server. They can check their results at ease after some hours when the issue is completely resolved.

Details on CDS 2018 Scorecard

Score card which is the most important document to appear for CDS 2018 Counselling without which candidates will not be allowed in their respective center. Candidates are required to download their score card online from the official UPSC site. They must take a print out of the score card issued by UPSC for further educational endeavor.

Details on CDS score card:

  • Name of the applicant
  • Roll number
  • Date of birth of the applicant.
  • Application number
  • Photograph and signature
  • Reporting time for the counselling
  • Gender

Normalization of Scores

Normalization of score includes the minimum percentile of total score required to clear the CDS 2018 examination and forge ahead to the counselling to get admission in desired colleges. All the important details regarding the normalization of score, including the qualifying percentile needed to get through the examination, is tabulated below:

The procedure to calculate the score based on the marking scheme for CDS 2018 examination is mentioned below:

  • Positive marking is awarded for each correct answer.
  • For each wrong answer, you will lose 1/3rd your marks which clearly means if your three answers are wrong then your 1 correct answer marks will be deducted
  • For marking more than one answer, candidate will score 0 marks.
  • For a blank or an un-attempted answer, zero marks will be given.

CDS 2018 Answer Key

CDS 2018 Answer Key will be made available online after the examination on the official website of UPSC. Students who are appearing for the examination can cross check with their respective answers they have marked in the examination.

The examination is to be held in February 2018 for CDS 1 and November 2018 for CDS 2 and so, the answer key is expected to be out within 1 week after the examination is held on the official UPSC portal.

Steps to download CDS 2018 Answer Key:

  • Go to the official site of UPSC
  • Click on the tab which says “CDS Answer Key 2018”.
  • Enter the credentials which are name and roll number.
  • The answer key will be displayed.
  • Verify your answers
  • Calculate your approximate result.

CDS 2018 Merit List

Once the results are out, the merit list will be determined on the basis of rank and marks secured by the candidates in the examination. There is no reservation in this examination. However, some candidates may apply sports quota to get admission directly in some of the college which will be totally based on the achievements in sports discipline.

CDS 2018 Merit List will be released by UPSC. Tie breaking criteria will also be applied in case of similar scores:

In case two or more candidates score similar marks in CDS 2018 examination, student older in age shall be given preference.

CDS 2018 Cut off

Cut off marks are released by UPSC once the results are out, based on which students get admission in their desired defense academy. Minimum of 20% score in each section is the basic cut off to qualify for CDS 2018 and an overall score of around more than 110 is needed to get a call from SSB for further interview and the counselling.

IMA (Indian Military Academy) and INA (Indian Naval Academy) cutoffs are around 100 while IAF (Indian Air Force) cutoff is more than 130. Exam would be for 6 hours and total number of questions would be 340.

CDS 2018 Counselling

Before candidates get into the armed forces, they will have to undergo the counselling followed by the written examination.

SSB (Services Selection Board) call students for the interview who are successful in scoring cut-off marks and relatable rank in CDS 2018 written exam. SSB evaluates a candidate's suitability and capability for a career in the Indian Armed Forces. The SSB interview lasts for a week or so during which a candidate undergoes various physical and psychological test which determines if a candidate is fit to be an officer.

Apart from SSB interview, candidates who have applied for flying branch in Air Force academy are tested separately. After the test, candidates undergo several medical examinations and once they are clear with these examinations and the training, they are inducted into the armed forces. Selection process is based on the basic quality of leadership which assumes that every leader must have some specific and pre-determined leadership traits.
