CDS (Combined Defence Services) examination will be conducted on November 19, 2018. The difficulty level of questions will be moderate. There will be a different cutoff for IMA (Indian Military services), AFA (Air Force Academy), INA (Indian Naval Academy), OTA (Officer’s Training Academy). The candidates who applied for OTA were exempted from Mathematics.

CDS 2018 cutoff is the minimum required marks by candidates in written exam to get shortlisted for SSB interview. Overall and sectional cutoffs are expected to rise. The CDS result will be declared in January 2018 and answer key is available here.

CDS 2016 Cut Off

The final cut off for both CDS 1 2016 and CDS 2 2016 have been released. Candidates can find below both sectional and final cut off for the year 2016.

CDS Previous Year Cutoff

The last year exam pattern was different for all academy. AFA academy had higher cutoff than another one. Candidates can go through following table for CDS cutoff 2015 is mentioned below:

Factors Affecting CDS Cutoff

The Cutoff is not only dependent on the written exam. Candidate should know about the UPSC CDS criteria on which cutoff changed according to the situation. There are various factors on which CDS cutoff will depend is as follow:

  • Total number of candidates who are appearing for the exam.
  • Difficulty level of written test of each section
  • Marking scheme of the examination
  • Previous year’s cutoff for all academy
  • Average performance of candidates in the exam
  • Reservation policy for reserved categories. Higher reservation for a particular section, higher would be cutoff for other categories

Final Merit List Preparation

SSB (Service Selection Board) interview is an important stage for final merit list preparation. This is a 5-day selection process which is scheduled at the Armed forces SSB centers. The purpose of SSB is to judge candidate in five days with different selection process. The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of total marks obtained in written test and the performance of candidate in all rounds of SSB including medical round. After that, the candidates shortlisted candidates will be selected for their academy. Following selection process is as follow:

  1. Screening Test:

In this process, candidates have to qualify Aptitude test, picture perception, Group discussion. After that, candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the same.

  1. Psychological Test:

The psychological test is held on 2nd day. This process helps in the recording of candidates emotional and behavioral reactions. Candidates have to clear following rounds i.e. Thematic appreciation test, Word association test, Situation reaction test, Self- Description.

  1. Group Task:

This round is divided into parts scheduled in two days. The candidates have to perform different nine task i.e. military planning exercise, snake race, command task, final group task etc. along with their groups which are conducted by Group Testing Officer.

  1. Personal Interview:

In the personal interview, there is a direct conversation with the officer. The selection of candidate is based on their personal views, creativity and confidence.

  1. Conference:

This round ends the interview process by the candidate action, thought process and words. After that, they are sent for medical and then for merit list.
