UPSC IES (Indian Engineering Service) is a very lucrative exam conducted to recruit the Engineers for the technical positions in Central Government of India. It is very competitive as thousands of students take this exam. The exam is conducted once a year.

Crash Course

The list of exam centers is released every year with the official notification. The candidates can choose their preference while filling up the application form.Before appearing in the exam, candidates should practise the previous years’ papers of MPSC Prelims and Mains Exam.

Candidates have to indicate their preferred exam center while registering for IES 2020. IES Exam centers are different for Preliminary exam and Main exam:

UPSC IES 2021 Main Exam Centers

The exam centers for Prelims and Mains are not the same. The UPSC IES Mains Exam is conducted at 24 centers. Following is the list for those 24 Mains Exam Center.

Exam Center Allocation

  1. The authorities decide the final allocation of seats.
  2. The seats are allocated on the basis of first-come-first basis. Thus the students are advised to fill up the application form as soon as possible.
  3. All the exam centers except Nagpur, Dispur, Chennai and Kolkata have a limited number of seats. Thus they are frozen after the seats are filled.
  4. Once the center is frozen, the candidates are given a second chance to choose another center.
  5. The candidates have to be very careful while choosing the exam center. They won’t be allowed to change their preference except in the case of capped number of seats.

UPSC IES- How to change the exam center?

In case the candidates want to change the exam center chosen by them during filling up the application, they can do so with the following steps:

  1. Go to the official website of UPSC at
  2. Find the link for ‘Online request for change of examination center’ and click on it.
  3. Find the ‘Engineering services Main’ row in the table, and go to the column ‘To change exam center’.
  4. Click on the link given there.
  5. Read the instructions given on the page that has opened.
  6. Check the box with ‘Yes’ at the bottom.
  7. Your login details will be asked.
  8. Enter the roll number/registration number and fill in the captcha asked.
  9. The registered email id and mobile number will receive an OTP.
  10. Enter the OTP and log in.
  11. Change the exam center as your wish and submit.
  12. Your exam center will be changed.
