CTET Exam Pattern 2021, Marking Scheme and Syllabus for Paper 1 & 2

The national level exam is divided into 2 levels or papers. Paper I is for candidates who wish to teach classes 1 to 5 and Paper II is for candidates who wish to teach classes 6 to 8. In case candidates wish to qualify to teach classes 1 – 8, they can appear for both the papers in CTET.

Both Paper I & II contain a total of 150 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) each. 1 mark is awarded to correct answers and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The paper is conducted in offline mode as a pen-and-paper based test. ​Paper 1 consists of 5 sections while Paper 2 consists of 4 sections. Candidates have to choose between Mathematics & Science and Social Studies in Paper 2.

CTET 2020 OMR Sheet

Use of Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) Sheet

There are a certain set of instructions that must be followed while handling the (Optical Mark Recognition) OMR Sheet. Candidates must abide by the given instructions and follow the rules stated regarding OMR Sheet while attempting CTET 2021. Given below are a few facts and guidelines related to it:

  • Candidates will find OMR Sheet placed inside a sealed test booklet. The seal must be opened only after the announcement by the invigilator.
  • Code like A, B, C or D printed on OMR sheet will be the same as mentioned in the test booklet.
  • OMR Sheet will be scanned on an optical scanner. Candidates should ensure that OMR Sheet is not folded.
  • Do not write your Roll number anywhere except in a specified space in OMR sheet.

Side 1 of OMR sheet contains the following columns which are to be filled clearly and accurately with a ballpoint pen (blue/black). The use of a pencil is strictly prohibited.

  1. Roll Number
  2. Name of the candidate
  3. Father’s Name
  4. Centre Number
  5. Name of the Examination Centre
  6. Subject offered for Paper-II (Only in case of Paper-II)

Side 2 of OMR Sheet contains the following columns:

  1. Roll Number
  2. Main Test Booklet Number
  3. Language Supplement Booklet Number
  4. Language Supplement Booklet Code
  5. Subject offered for Paper-II (Only in case of Paper-II)
  6. Language in which you have attempted the questions
  7. Signature of the candidate

Exam Day Guidelines

CTET 2021 Exam Day Instructions

Guidelines that have to be followed during CTET examination 2021 are listed below. Candidates must carefully go through them before sitting for CTET 2021:

  • The test will start exactly at the time mentioned on CTET 2021 Admit Card.
  • The candidate will be asked to open the seal of the Test Booklet five minutes before the commencement of the paper.
  • Check carefully that the Test Booklet Code printed on Side 2 of OMR Sheet is the same as printed on Test Booklet.
  • Immediately report the matter to the invigilator for replacement of both the Test Booklet and OMR Sheet in the case of any discrepancy.
  • During the examination, the invigilator will check the admit card to verify the identity of a candidate.
  • Candidates must use a ballpoint pen (Blue/Black) only. The use of pencil is strictly prohibited and will be rejected.
  • Candidates will mark the answers on the OMR sheet only after the announcement of the invigilator.

Ans: CTET Syllabus 2021 is defined by CBSE. There have been no changes in the syllabus over the years. Paper 1 comprises 5 sections namely, Child Development and Pedagogy, Language 1, Language 2, Mathematics and Environmental Studies. Paper 2 has four sections namely Child Development and Pedagogy, Language 1, Language 2, Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies.

Ques: Is language 1 and 2 compulsory in CTET 2021?

Ans: Yes, both language papers are compulsory. The choice of language for language-I and -II should be different. Candidates can choose from a prescribed set of 20 languages as language-I and -II.

Ques: Can I appear for both paper 1 and 2 of CTET 2021?

Ans: Yes. Paper I is for candidates who wish to teach classes 1 to 5 and Paper II is for candidates who wish to teach classes 6 to 8. In case candidates wish to qualify to teach classes 1 – 8, they can appear for both the papers in CTET.

I have applied for the CTET exam on both Papers I and II. Can I give the exam only on Paper II?

Yes you can do so if you wish to teach students from class 6 to 8. For both paper 1 and 2, additional fees need to paid at the time of registration. For every correct answer you will be awarded 1 mark and for wrong answer there is no negative marking applicable.

Hi Kaushal, You have not mentioned which course are you pursuing right now. Final year diploma students are eligible to apply who have passed senoir secondary or equivalent exam. Also there are minimum aggregate and age requirement as well to be eligible . To know more visit CTET exam eligibility.

Hello Nilanjan,

The application form for CTET will be available somewhat in the month of July 2021. The form can only be filled up online through the official website of CTET. 
Paper I is for the candidates who want to teach Class 1st to Class 5th and Paper II is for the candidates who want to teach in Class 6th to Class 8th. You can give both the papers if you want but both of them are not compulsory in order to qualify for the examination. For more information, visit – CTET 2021

Hi Dinesh, sorry, but you are not eligible to take this exam as candidates appearing in this exam must have done an education degree viz B.Ed/B.El.Ed/D.Ed/D.El.Ed etc along with graduation/post graduation to be eligible for CTET exam.

Hi Sukhveer, no, it is not necessary to choose English as a subject in CTET. Choice of the language is totally candidate's choice.
