CTET Eligibility 2020 is laid down by CBSE for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. The basic requirement is to have passed senior secondary or graduation with minimum 50% aggregate marks and relevant teacher training program.

  • Candidates must check and ensure that they fulfil CTET Eligibility Criteria before applying for the exam.
  • There are two papers of CTET (Paper 1 and Paper 2) having different eligibility criteria. 
  • Paper 1 is taken for becoming a teacher of classes I to V while Paper II is for becoming a teacher of classes VI to VIII. Check CTET 2020 Exam Pattern
  • A person who intends to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to VIII) needs to appear in both the papers.
  • Candidates scoring 60% or more marks in the exam is considered as TET pass. Check CTET Cutoff

CTET Eligibility: Age Limit

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India to be eligible for CTET 2020.
  • There is no age restriction, however, the candidate must be minimum 17 years of age.

CTET Eligibility: Educational Qualification Requirements

Candidates have to fulfill different eligibility conditions to be a Primary or Elementary Teacher. CTET Eligibility 2020 requirements are stated below for Paper 1 and Paper 2:

CTET Eligibility 2020 for Paper I

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks.
  • Also, he/she must have passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education

OR

  • Applicants must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 45% marks.
  • He/she must have passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education, in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.

OR

  • Aspirants must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks.
  • They must also pass or appear in the final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

OR

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks.
  • Along with it, they must have a pass certificate of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*.

OR

  • A graduation degree in the relevant discipline must be acquired.
  • A certificate of two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known). 

CTET Eligibility 2020 for Paper II

  • A graduate degree in the relevant discipline must be obtained.
  • Also, the candidate must have passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks must be acquired.
  • Aspirants must have completed 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).

OR

  • Graduation with at least 45% marks must be done in relevant discipline.
  • He/she must also complete a year in Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.

OR

  • Candidates must pass Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks
  • Also, they must have either passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

OR

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary or equivalent) with at least 50% marks.
  • Along with it, they must have passed or should be appearing in the final year of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.

OR

  • Aspirants must have done graduation with at least 50% marks.
  • Also, they should have passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)*.

CTET 2020 Eligibility: Other Parameters

The organizing body will look at some other factors too for the purpose of recruitment of teachers. These qualifications will not be essential requirements but will give applicants a better chance to secure a job in a good school. They are listed below:

  • A degree or diploma in teacher education must be recognized by NCTE.
  • For a Diploma or Degree in Special Education, the programs recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) will be considered.
  • Candidates with D.ed (Special Education) will have to undergo an NCTE recognized 6-month special program in elementary education. Check CTET Admit Card

CTET Eligibility for Reserved Category

Seats will not be reserved for individuals belonging to the reserved category (SC/ ST/ OBC and PwD candidates). However, they are granted a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying exam of the minimum educational requirement.

CTET Eligibility 2020 FAQs

Ques. What is the maximum number of attempts an individual can avail for CTET 2020?

Ans: CBSE has not laid down any restrictions regarding the number of times an aspirant can appear for CTET.

Ques. What are the minimum qualifying criteria for obtaining a CTET Certificate?

Ans: Candidates who secure more than 60% in CTET 2020 will be issued a CTET Eligibility certificate by the organizing body. This certificate will be valid for a time period of 7 years. CBSE may offer certain concessions to the reserved category participants.

Ques. If a candidate qualifies CTET; will CTET unit or CBSE provide him a job?

Ans: NO, CBSE is responsible for only conducting CTET 2020 and provision of employment does not fall under its jurisdiction.

Ques. What is the applicability of CTET 2020?

Ans: The certificate that will be issued to all qualifying candidates will be applicable to the following:

  • Central Government Schools like KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.
  • Schools administered by UT’s of Chandigarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and NCT of Delhi.
  • Schools owned and managed by the State Government or local bodies as also unaided private schools may exercise the option of considering CTET.

Hi Kulwant, No it is not mandatory to acquire minimum score in respective subject but you must secure at least 50% in aggregate. Also for reserved category, there is a relaxation of 5% in the marks. CTET has 2 papers one for primary and other for upper primary tecahers recruitment and education qualification is different for both. Check details at CTET eligibility.

Hi Kulwant, There is no seat reservation applicable for reserved category but they are provided a relaxation of 5% in minimum aggregate percentage, hence you are eligible to apply for CTET test. To qualify the test, you need to secure a minimum of 60% marks. Find more details at CTET eligibility.

Hi Deepali, CTET is conducted twice a year i..e in July and December. For July session, registration process will commence tentatively from February 2021 till March 2021. Exam will be conducted in May 2021 and the dates for the same will announced along with the notification on the college official website. Find more details at CTET 2021.

Hi, Yes, you will be eligible to appear for CTET entrance examination without B. Ed degree. The other option to appear for entrance examination is that candidate must have passed minimum 12th from a recognised board with Diploma in Education degree.

Hi, Aspirants are required to check CTET 2020 Eligibility before applying for the exam. Candidates belonging to the reserved categories will be provided with a relaxation of 5% in the qualifying marks in the academic eligibility of CTET. Hi Sonali. For paper 1 12th is the primary criteria and for paper 2 graduation is required. In either case a diploma in elementary education or B.Ed. is compulsory, so yes you are very much eligible to apply for both papers, on condition you fulfil other eligibility norms as well.
