CTET Eligibility 2021: Age, Minimum Qualifications, & Reservation

The CTET eligibility criteria is framed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). CTET Eligibility 2021 is laid down by CBSE for both Paper 1 and Paper 2. The basic requirement is to have passed senior secondary or graduation with minimum 50% aggregate marks and relevant teacher training program. 

  • Candidates must check and ensure that they fulfill CTET Eligibility Criteria before applying for the exam.
  • Paper 1 is taken for becoming a teacher of classes I to V while Paper II is for becoming a teacher of classes VI to VIII. Check CTET 2021 Exam Pattern
  • A person who intends to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to VIII) needs to appear in both the papers.
  • Candidates scoring 60% or more marks in the exam is considered as TET pass. Check CTET Cutoff

Age Limit 

  • The applicant must be a citizen of India to be eligible for CTET 2021
  • There is no age restriction, however, the candidate must be minimum 17 years of age.

Nationality

  • The aspirants should be Indian Citizens.

Educational Qualification Requirements

Candidates have to fulfill different eligibility conditions to be a Primary or Elementary Teacher. CTET Eligibility 2021 requirements are stated below for Paper 1 and Paper 2:

CTET Eligibility 2021 for Paper I

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks.
  • Also, he/she must have passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education

OR

  • Applicants must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 45% marks.
  • He/she must have passed or appearing in the final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education, in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002.

OR

  • Aspirants must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks.
  • They must also pass or appear in the final year of 4- year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

OR

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks.
  • Along with it, they must have a pass certificate of 2- year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*.

OR

  • A graduation degree in the relevant discipline must be acquired.
  • A certificate of two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known). 

CTET Eligibility 2021 for Paper II

  • A graduate degree in the relevant discipline must be obtained.
  • Also, the candidate must have passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).

OR

  • A bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks must be acquired.
  • Aspirants must have completed 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed).

OR

  • Graduation with at least 45% marks must be done in relevant discipline.
  • He/she must also complete a year in Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations issued from time to time in this regard.

OR

  • Candidates must pass Senior Secondary or equivalent with at least 50% marks
  • Also, they must have either passed or appearing in the final year of 4- year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).

OR

  • Candidates must have passed senior secondary or equivalent) with at least 50% marks.
  • Along with it, they must have passed or should be appearing in the final year of 4- year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed.

OR

  • Aspirants must have done graduation with at least 50% marks.
  • Also, they should have passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education)*.

Others Parameters

CTET 2021 Eligibility: Other Parameters

The organizing body will look at some other factors too for the purpose of recruitment of teachers. These qualifications will not be essential requirements but will give applicants a better chance to secure a job in a good school. They are listed below:

  • A degree or diploma in teacher education must be recognized by NCTE.
  • For a Diploma or Degree in Special Education, the programs recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) will be considered.
  • Candidates with D.ed (Special Education) will have to undergo an NCTE recognized 6-month special program in elementary education. Check CTET Admit Card

CTET Eligibility for Reserved Category

Seats will not be reserved for individuals belonging to the reserved category (SC/ ST/ OBC and PwD candidates). However, they are granted a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying exam of the minimum educational requirement.

CTET Eligibility 2021 FAQs

Ques. What is the maximum number of attempts an individual can avail for CTET 2021?

Ans: CBSE has not laid down any restrictions regarding the number of times an aspirant can appear for CTET.

Ques. What are the minimum qualifying criteria for obtaining a CTET Certificate?

Ans: Candidates who secure more than 60% in CTET 2021 will be issued a CTET Eligibility certificate by the organizing body. This certificate will be valid for a time period of 7 years. CBSE may offer certain concessions to the reserved category participants.

Ques. If a candidate qualifies CTET; will CTET unit or CBSE provide him a job?

Ans: NO, CBSE is responsible for only conducting CTET 2021 and provision of employment does not fall under its jurisdiction.

Ques. What is the applicability of CTET 2021?

Ans: The certificate that will be issued to all qualifying candidates will be applicable to the following:

  • Central Government Schools like KVS, NVS, Central Tibetan Schools, etc.
  • Schools administered by UT’s of Chandigarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and NCT of Delhi.
  • Schools owned and managed by the State Government or local bodies as also unaided private schools may exercise the option of considering CTET.

You are eligible to apply for CTET. As per the eligibility criteria, the aspirants have to qualify 10+2 with a minimum 45% score in aggregate so that they can be eligible to apply for the primary stage teacher. To be recruited as an elementary stage teacher, the interested candidates should have got minimum 45% marks in graduation and 50% marks in 10+2 standard.

To register for CTET exam 2021 the eligibility criteria is-

  • Candidate who have passed Bachelor’s degree with a minimu of 50% marks and have passed B.Ed can register for the CTET Exam. (OR),
  • Candidate who have passed Bachelor’s degree and have done D.Ed are eligible to register for the CTET Exam. (OR),
  • Candidate who have passed 12 and B.El.Ed with a minimum of 50% marks can also register for the CTET Exam. (OR),
  • Candidate who have complete class 12 and have passed B.A. B.Ed/ B.Sc. B.Ed integrated course are eligible to register for the CTET Exam.

Hello I have completed my 12th with 98% and graduation in BBA with 79% I would like to attempt both the papers of CTET exam so what should I do a 2 ur diploma in elementary education or I should go for BEd? Which will help me to be eligible for both the papers?

Hi Jyothsna,

As per the eiligibiliy of CTET exam to appear in both primary and elimentary stage exams you need to have more than 50% marks in 12th examination, passed graudation and you need to do a two year diploma in teaching.

So, you can do a 2 year diploma in teaching which will make you eligible for both CTET papers.

Yes you are very much eligible to apply for pape 2 with a Bachelor’s degree from open University as well. Along with UG degree, one needs to possess a diploma in elementary education or B.Ed degree to be eligible.

Eligibility criteria for both paper 1 and paper 2 will be different and one can take either of them or both papers as per their preference. Find more details at CTET Eligibility 2021.

Yes, if you have a Bachelor's degree and have passed the D.Ed course are eligible to register for the CTET exam OR have a bachelor's degree with a minimum of 50% of marks and have passed B. Ed can also register for the CTET exam OR those who have passed Class 12 and B.EI.Ed with a minimum of 50% of marks is eligible to register for the CTET exam.

Hello Pritijivraj, Yes even after completion of M. Sc applicants applying for CTET must have a B. Ed degree. Without B. Ed degree applicants cannot apply for CTET.

Yes after completing the B.Ed. course, you will be eligible as one needs to have at least 455 marks at graduation level to apply for paper 2. Eligibility criteria varies for paper 1. There are other parameters of eligibility that must be satisfied to be eligibel for the entrance test. Candidate can appear for both the papers if found eligible. For paper 1, you are eligible with 60% marks at 12th level on condition that you also have a diploma in elementary education.

For paper 2, 45% at Graduation level is okay but you must also have completed B.Ed from a recognised board.

A candidate can opt for either of the paper or both as per his/her preference. Also there are other eligibility rules of age and nationality that also must be fulfilled to appear for the exam. You can find more details at CTET eligibility 2021.

For teaching at 11th and 12th level CTET is not applicable and you need qualify for B.Ed for being a teacher. For CTET there will be 2 papers, where paper 1 is for those who sih to teach from class 1to 5 while paper 2 is for those intending to teach from class 6 to 8. To be eligible for paper 1, you must also have completed diploma in elementary education along with minimum 50% marks at 12th level.  Therefore you are not eligible for paper 1. However for paper 2 B.Ed is valid course and hence you are eligible for paper 2. There are other criterias of eligibility as well that needs to be fulfilled to be eligible. Yes you are very much eligible for paper 1 of CTET as the required eligibility is as follows:

  • 12th exam with minimum aggregate of 50% marks
  • Must have passed or appearing in the final year of 2 year diploma in elementary education

There is no restriction for upper age limit but you need to at least 17 years of age to apply for the exam.

You can apply for the exam only if you have passed 12th exam or graduation with at least 50% marks. Also one has to pass diploma in elementary education to be eligible for paper 1 and B.Ed for paper 2. There are other eligibility criterias including that of age, nationality etc. that needs to be fulfilled before applying for the post.

For paper 1, you must also have done diploma in elementary education as a mandate to be eligible. To be eligible for paper 2, graduation with minimum 45% along with B.Ed is compulsory. So as per your details, you will be eligible for paper 2 only. There are other eligibility norms as well that needs to be followed.

With B.Ed qualification, you are eligible for paper 2 only but for paper 1, diploma or bachelor’s degree in elementary education is mandatory. There are other eligibility factors including that of nationality and age that must be satisfied to appear for the exam.

Unfortunately you will not qualify the test as the minimum marks required to qualify is 90 out of 150 in respective papers. You need tos ecure at least 60% marks to qualify under general category. There is relaxation of 5% for OBC, SC and ST category students. Check more details at CTET 2021 result.

To be eligible PwD category students must pass 12th exam or equivalent with at least 40% marks. There will be no seats reserved for PwD or any other reserved category apart from 5% relaxation in minimum aggregate requirement. There will be 2 papers in CTET for which eligibility criterias will be different.

Unfortunately to qualify the exam you need to secure a minimum of 60% in CTET exam for general category candidates. You have not specified your category as there will be relaxation of 5% for reserved category candidates. Yes you can apply for CTET exam as the minimum required academic qualification is 12th pass from a recognise dboard with minimum 50% marks in aggregate along with valid teacher’s training program. There will be 2 papers and for both eligibility criteria is different.

WIth B.Ed ad UG degree, you will be eligible for paper 2. To be eligible for paper 1 with bachelor’s degree, you must have also completed 2 year diploma in elementary education without which you won’t be eligible for paper 1. Yes you can definitely apply on condition that you fulfil all the required qualifications as prescribed by CBSE in the official notification related to age, education, nationality etc. CTET is conducted twice in a year by CBSE for eligible students to pursue career as a teacher.
